Global 10


Course Overview- This is the 2nd half of the chronologically rooted look at World History and Cultures that was started last year in Global History 9. This year’s course picks up in about 1750CE and proceeds up to the present. Students will take a NYS Regents exam, that will only cover Global History and Geography10, in June of 2018. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions and 2 essays (one Thematic, the other Document Based). It is one of the 5 Regents exams that is tied to requirements for graduation. The 4 Units taught in Global 10 are:

Unit 1- An Age of Enlightenment and Revolutions 1750-1900

Unit 2- A Half Century of Crisis and Achievement 1900-1945

Unit 3- The World Since 1945

Unit 4- Modern Global Connections and Interactions

Quarterly Grades- a typical quarterly marking period will find the students being responsible for the following work:

  • 20 homework assignments based on textbook readings
  • 5 quizzes based on these textbook readings
  • 3 Unit tests that will involve writing, to be completed at home before the test, and multiple choice questions that will be completed in class
  • 3 current event international news articles with written summaries and insights
  • 2 Regents style essays (Thematic and Document Based) which will usually be completed at home
  • A notebook check
  • Students will receive a class-work grade based on their performance and cooperation during a quarter’s worth of class periods.

Additional Information- There are ample opportunities for students to do extra credit and to receive extra help.

There will be several after school review sessions for the Regents exam in late May and early June. Please support our efforts by encouraging attendance at these sessions. We will also be ordering a Regents Review book for the students in the Spring.
