Mueller Charter and Bayfront Charter High School provide support to children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Students who live in any of the following situations may qualify for services:
Staying in an emergency or transitional shelter.
Sharing housing with one or more families due to loss of housing, economic hardship, natural disaster, lack of adequate housing or similar reason.
Living in a car, park campground, abandoned building or other inadequate accommodations ( i.e. lack of water, electricity, or heat)
Temporarily living in a motel or hotel due to loss of housing, economic hardship, natural disaster or similar reason
Unaccompanied youth (students under the age of 18 and living apart from parent/s or guardian)
Under the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act, eligible children and youth have the right to:
Receive a free appropriate public education.
Enroll in school immediately, even if lacking documents are typically required for enrollment.
Continue to attend their school of origin if requested by you and it is in the best interest of the students.
According to the student's needs, receive educational services comparable to those provided to other students.
Receive transportation assistance to the school attended before the family lost housing if requested

Foster Youth
Mueller/ Bayfront Charter High School is committed to providing support to our students in the foster care system. Our School Counseling Programs ensure equitable access to education for foster youth by removing barriers to education in accordance with CA law (AB 490), such as:
School Stability – The right to remain in their original school when they enter foster care or move (if in their best interests).
Immediate Enrollment – The right to be immediately enrolled in a new school (even without health/education records).
Mueller/Bayfront Charter supports and advocates for students' academic success in foster care in collaboration with the child’s school, care providers, child welfare, community-based agencies, and the youth.
