MT Astronomy Club wants to convey through our mission statement that the goal of our facilities and outreach is to provide a tangible and approachable narrative geared towards a diverse audience/guests. Our goal in making the concepts more “hands on” provides concrete exemplars for all audience levels at any age, while maintaining high-tech facilities with the capacity to serve the most advanced users.
Our Mission is based on three main pillars:
Pillar 1- MTHS Planetarium
Create audio/visual experiences on the planetarium to simulate unreachable astronomical concepts, travel through space and time, and explore our cosmos while guiding our audience in meaningful and creative ways through through the use of storytelling. MT Astronomy Club Public Planetarium shows are researched, illustrated, authored, produced, programmed, and presented by MTHS students. MT Astronomy Club advisers are present at all times to guide/nurture students towards meeting their goal in creating the best possible planetarium experience for our audience.
Pillar 2- MT SkyLab Observatory
Observe astronomical objects visible in our skies while explaining them in a way that is understandable to an audience. MT SkyLab Observatory will be a student run facility. Students will conduct research on various astronomical topics, with an emphasis on student-generated research questions. MT Astronomy Club advisers are present at all times to guide/nurture students towards meeting their goal in creating the best possible observational astronomy experience for our guests.
Pillar 3- Learning Communities
Collaboration with local, regional, national, and international astronomical groups provides MT Astronomy Club students the ability to practice key critical Thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity skills necessary for success in the 21st Century.
