Alex Weinzierl - Director of Bands
Alex Weinzierl currently serves as the Director of Bands in the Mount Vernon R-V School District in Mount Vernon, MO, where he directs the Concert Band, "Marching Mountaineers," Mountaineer Jazz Band, teaches middle school courses, and oversees the entire band program. Mr. Weinzierl graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Certificates in Jazz Studies and Multicultural Studies in 2023. Since 2025, Alex has served as the Brass Caption Head for the Colt Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps.
Before Mr. Weinzierl’s appointment as Director of Bands at Mt. Vernon High School in the fall of 2023, he student taught in the Platte County School District in the spring of 2023 with Dr. Matthew Bonsignore. Alex holds professional affiliations with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA), and the Missouri Bandmasters Assocation (MBA). Alex happily resides in Springfield, Missouri with his wife, Emily and their dog, Remi.
Curtis Halbrook - Assistant Director of Bands
Curtis Halbrook is serving in his first year as the Assistant Director of Bands in the Mt. Vernon R-V School District, teaching marching band, concert band, middle school band, and 5th-grade general music. Mr. Halbrook graduated from Truman State University with his Bachelor of Arts in Music (2022), Master of Arts in Music Performance (2024), and Master of Arts in Education (2024). Before coming to Mt. Vernon, Mr. Halbrook student taught in the Rockwood School District in St. Louis, Missouri, with Mr. Christian Pierce. He is affiliated with organizations such as the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS). Mr. Halbrook is also an endorser with the Salyers Percussion Education Team.
Mr. Halbrook is very excited to come to Mt. Vernon to share his love for music with the students in the band program. He is excited to work alongside Mr. Weinzierl to continue a standard of excellence and musicianship among students. Outside of school, you can find Mr. Halbrook following his favorite sports teams or catching up on the latest shows and movies with his fianceé, Bridget.
Lauren Byrne - Colorguard Director
Lauren Byrne has been serving as the Colorguard Director for the Mt. Vernon Band Program since 2024. She graduated from Missouri State University in 2021 with a Degree in Geology and Minor in Sustainability, she is currently going back to MSU to pursue a second undergraduate degree in Interior Design. Outside of the Mt. Vernon world - Lauren serves as Colorguard Director and Program Coordinator at Branson High School, Choreographer and Technician at Missouri State University and the Pride of Missouri State and National Avenue Winterguards, and Colorguard Technician with the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps.
Lauren is passionate about everything she puts her energy into, and MV is no different! She loves working with the committed and talented students here. In her free time she loves to run and weightlift, decorate her home, find ways to be outdoors, and spend time with her two wonderful cats - Luna and Motor Oil (Modie for short).
