Welcome! We are a materials physics and ultrafast laser spectroscopy group. We study and explore optical, plasmonic, and quantum properties of materials at nanometer length scale and sub-nanosecond time scale. Please check out the "Current Research" page.

June 2025

Aaron and Ryan's paper, titled "Superlattice-induced Superfluorescence in Quasi-2D Metal Halide Perovskites" has been accepted for publication in ACS Photonics (IF: 6.5)!

April 2025

Aaron earned his PhD in Applied Physics after a successful defense. Congrats, Dr. Wildenborg!
Cooper Chiarino joins the Physics PhD Program at Michigan State University. Congrats!
Austin West joins the Physics PhD Program at the University of Arizona. Austin received the Ian W. Shepherd Award (2025) at Michigan Tech Physics. Congrats!

December 2024

Suh receives the supplemental grant (NSF-DEVCOM Intern program, $54k) for the existing ERI project from NSF. Ryan will visit the ARL to conduct the proposed nanofabrication and measurements.

November 2024

Dr. Miguel Levy, Dr. Ravi Pandey (PI), and Suh receive research funds (total direct ~ $1.5M) from the Army Research Lab in support of the ARL-CLAWS program! Suh's group will work on room-temperature polaritonic condensations based on 2D materials and their applications to Sagnac interferometry.

September 2024

Jae teaches Quantum Mechanics I (graduate level, PH5410) for Fall 2024.
Cooper and Austin continue working in the lab as Senior Research undergraduates. Caden also continues working in the lab as an undergraduate researcher.

August 2024

Jae gave a talk on our spectroscopic and microscopic (scanning TEM) study of superfluorescent quasi-2D perovskites at the 2024 CLEO-Pacific Rim Conference, Songdo, Korea
Vinaayak S. B. received his MS degree in Applied Physics and joined the Physics PhD program at the University of Arkansas. Congrats!

June 2024

Jisna Abdul Razak from Mahatma Gandhi University joined the group as an intern MS student. She works on building a laser-scanning photoluminescence microscope.

Aaron gives a talk on our observation of superfluorescence in quasi-2D perovskites at the 2024 MRS Spring meeting in Seattle.
Ryan wins the best 2024 Graduate Oral Presentation in the Physics Department. Congrats.

March 2024

Austin West receives the 2024 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)! Austin will work on laser interference lithography and the fabrication of distributed feedback lasing resonators for the summer. Austin also receives the Physics Department Scholar Award. Congrats!
Cooper Chiarino and Caden Sheofsky will continue working for the summer as undergraduate researchers. Cooper will also work as a lab assistant at the ACMAL facility at MTU.
Ryan receives the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award for Spring 2024. Congrats!

Meera's paper on the Raman spectroscopic study of twisted bilayer WS2 has been accepted at ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces.

Meera successfully defended her PhD dissertation. Congrats! Dr. Manpreet Boora.
Ryan successfully passed his research proposal exam. Congrats! Now, Ryan is a PhD candidate.

July 2023

A follow-up paper on alkali metal (Na, K, and Na-K alloy) nanostructures has been accepted at Nano Letters! Aaron and Caden have contributed to this collaborative work as the co-authors.

June 2023

Suh receives an internal Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (AMM) grant ($10K).
Suh's paper (corresponding author), in collaboration with Dr. Sungho Choi at KRICT and Dr. Chul-Hoon Kim at Korea University, has been just accepted at Advanced Optical Materials (IF: 10.05) and is included in a Special Issue of the Journal on "Photophysics of halide perovskites - from bulk to nano".

May 2023

Suh received a research grant (ERI) from NSF for developing quantum-light-emitting devices based on superfluorescent quasi-2D perovskites.
Ryan passed all the PhD qualifying exams. Congrats.

April 2023

Aaron has been selected to receive a prestigious Department of Defense SMART scholarship! Aaron will work with a research group at the Naval Information Warfare Center, South Carolina. Congrats!

Aeshah's work on "Fast and slow propagation of SPPs on metallic mesh gratings" is published in Journal of Optics.
Suh's Lab has built and verified a time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) and photo-emission correlation measurement setup.

The Suh Lab establishes a collaboration (through Open Campus) with Army Research Lab for the study of Super-radiance from metal-insulator-metal nanocavities.
