We are a little less than a month away from the Workshop to Explore Science Opportunities and Concepts for a Large-Scale Aerosol-Cloud-Turbulence Research Facility taking place on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 at the NCAR Foothills Lab in Boulder, CO.
Linked here is an at-a-glance agenda, which outlines the 2-day workshop.
There is a planned “working dinner” at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The goal of this working dinner is to prepare an outline of the workshop report. Please email jnbrassa@mtu.edu if you would like to participate in the working dinner. RSVPs are required to order catering.
Attendees are responsible for booking and paying for your own travel for the workshop. Most attendees are staying at the Embassy Suites, and we are arranging for a shuttle bus to transport participants between the hotel and the Foothills Lab at the beginning and end of each day. If you choose not to stay at the Embassy Suites, staying somewhere nearby may be a good idea if you want to use the shuttle. Alternately, there is also a Residence Inn relatively close to the Foothills Lab.
We invite you to review this linked Report on a Technical Workshop held in Boulder, CO in 1985, published in the Bulletin American Meteorological Society (List, R., Haclett, J., Warner, J., & Reinking, R., 1986: The future of laboratory research and facilities for cloud physics and cloud chemistry). Thinking about this as a precursor to our own workshop in November, please take a look at the state-of-the-art in 1985 and the recommendations for laboratories and facilities at that time.
Each day of the workshop will be full of valuable information and, more importantly, discussion, feedback, and new ideas.
We invite you to start thinking about the conversations you would like to have the workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to explore scientific questions and set priorities for a U.S.-based aerosol-cloud-turbulence research facility. We expect that this workshop will generate lively discussion and produce insights that will be helpful in designing and proposing a next-generation research facility. To do this, we hope that you’ll think about your research questions and goals prior to the workshop and come prepared to discuss with the workshop attendees.
The workshop will commence with registration and a light breakfast between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The workshop will end at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. We request that you participate in the entire two-day workshop.
In addition to the full workshop, we invite you to RSVP to a “working dinner.” This dinner will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with the goal to prepare an outline of the workshop report. Your participation will be extremely valuable if you can attend. Please email jnbrassa@mtu.edu if you would like to participate in the working dinner. RSVPs are required to order catering.
