Oboe
Essential Elements for Band book 1
Reeds-- These are consumable and will need to be purchased throughout the year. For high quality reeds, I recommend purchasing a "Charles Student Oboe Reed" at https://charlesmusic.com/shop/charles-student-oboe-reed/. Start with the "medium soft" strength. I recommend starting with at least 3 reeds since they do break easily. Students should always have at least 2 working reeds at each lesson.

Reeds - These are consumable and will be purchased throughout the year. You should start by purchasing 10 RICO brand reeds strength 2.5 (Since reeds break frequently, I ask students to always have 3 good reeds at each lesson/rehearsal.)

Please note that students who play the baritone/euphonium will be able to use a school owned instrument at school, but you will need to rent an instrument for at home practice and learning. Please rent a full size baritone/euphonium.

Slide-o-Mix Rapid Comfort
Note: All students playing brass instruments (trumpet, French Horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium) will also need a small container of petroleum jelly for greasing the slides of the instrument and a rag. These cannot be purchased along with the rental and are not necessary for the first lesson. Petroleum jelly can be purchased at supermarkets or pharmacies and a rag can simply be brought in from home.
Recommended but not required for all woodwind and brass instruments: metronome/tuner. (Korg TM60 tuner/metronome combo recommended) Can be purchased from most music stores, at https://www.shopnemc.com/category/ves, or at Amazon.
Percussion
Percussion students will need to rent a "bell kit" that includes bells, a drum pad, mallets, and sticks as well as a stand for the bells and drum pad.
