Montgomery Upper Middle School (UMS) is excited to welcome you and your child as they prepare to enter seventh grade and join our UMS community.

The first phase of our orientation process will take place on Monday, March 16, 2026, when sixth-grade students will visit UMS during the school day. This visit is designed to help students feel comfortable, confident, and excited about their transition to the Upper Middle School.

During this day, sixth-grade students will have the opportunity to:

• Take a guided tour of UMS and become familiar with classrooms and key spaces such as the cafeteria, gym, and common areas,

• Meet fellow students and begin building new connections,

• Get to know our counselors and administrators, who will support them academically, socially, and emotionally throughout their years at Upper Middle School, and

• Learn what makes UMS special, including our commitment to community, acceptance, resilience, and empathy.

The second phase of our orientation process has been re-scheduled for the evening of March 23, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the UMS Auditorium, and is designed specifically for parents/guardians. During this meeting, school administrators and counselors will review important information about UMS and what to expect as your child transitions to seventh grade. There will also be time to address common questions families have during this exciting change.

The final part of our orientation process, Seventh Grade Orientation Day, will take place in the second half of August (date to be shared at a later time). On this day, students will have the opportunity to walk through their schedules, locate their classrooms, and begin to feel fully prepared for the start of the school year.

We know that transitioning to a new school can bring a mix of emotions for both students and families. At UMS, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment where every student is known, supported, and encouraged to grow.
