Grammar

Why is Grammar Important?

When you think of grammar, you might think of nouns, verbs and adjectives...but when it comes to writing, grammar is so much more! As Montgomery students develop their writing skills, they learn to utilize a variety of sentence structures, purposeful and interesting word choice and punctuation. All of these aspects of writing are part of grammar.

What Resource Do We Utilize for Grammar Instruction?

Grammar is first introduced in Kindergarten and First Grade, primarily through Interactive Writing and Shared Writing, with the teacher serving as a scaffold for this work. Grammar is taught more explicitly in Grades 2-4 using Patterns of Power as our primary instructional resource.
