Academic support in English Language Arts for 5th and 6th graders focuses on strengthening foundational literacy skills while building independence with grade-level work. Instruction emphasizes improving reading fluency and comprehension by teaching strategies such as summarizing, inferring, and analyzing text. Students also work on expanding vocabulary and understanding grammar to support both reading and writing. Writing instruction builds stamina and strengthens organization, idea development, and sentence structure across genres, including narrative, informational, and opinion pieces. Support is closely aligned with classroom instruction, reinforcing key skills through guided practice, small-group work, and targeted interventions.
