Our Classes...

🍎 This year you will be part of the Red Team 1. Mrs. Mentzel & I will be your teachers for Language Arts and/ or Social Studies. Your Math & Science teachers are Ms. Bilik & Ms. Fuller.

👣🧸🍼 My co-teacher, Mrs. Mentzel, will join us in November, as she is currently staying at home with her precious baby until then. Mrs. Mentzel & I have been co-teaching for 7 years, and we love working together to help all our students. Here is a little bit about what each class will be about...

Language Arts...

📚 This year you will explore & improve your reading and writing skills. Through narrative, literary analysis and fantasy units, we will focus on the "life lessons" (themes) that can be learned in stories and how to write them into your own stories. We will discover the effective craft techniques that writer's use to bring out the meaning of their stories. We will learn how to communicate our ideas clearly and effectively with proper structure & grammar.

Social Studies...

🌎 This class will use the lens of historical events to explore the themes that exist in our past and how they impact our current lives. Our curriculum is divided into four central themes that will support our learning about Native American and Early American culture, history, geography, economics and government. We will look at different groups of people and their perspectives and try to enhance our understanding of American history.

A note about Mrs. Botero....

Hi! I am your upcoming Language Arts and/or Social Studies teacher. I am beginning my 10th year of teaching at LMS and I'm very excited to help you reach your full potential as you transition to middle school this year.

I was born and raised in New Jersey and I obtained my teaching license in 1999 😲 (a long time ago-so this is not my first job). My family is from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, and I enjoy Caribbean food and music. I speak Spanish whenever I can to practice my 2nd language.

I live nearby in Hopewell Township with my family. My older son will go to the University of Maryland this year to study business and we will miss him very much 😢. My younger son is starting 7th grade, so we are very familiar with the middle school experience.
