Senior moment usually means a lapse in memory or a simple mistake, like losing your keys. It's a phrase that reinforces the perception that older people aren't capable.
It's time to change that narrative!
We want to reclaim a "Senior Moment" as something to be shared, celebrated and admired. It's not about scaling mountains or competing in marathons - though it could be, if that's your thing. It's about moments in older life that make you YOU!
Help us shift perceptions of older age by submitting your finest moments to be displayed throughout the Mt. SAC campus during the Mt. SAC Unites Against Ageism Campaign.
Submit by April 24th using the link below. Hard copy submissions can be given to your instructors for submission to the office.
Birthday cards often mock older adults as weak, deaf, forgetful and crabby! We want to change this narrative by having a contest to create "age-positive" birthday cards that celebrate and honor the recipients.
We hope to change how people think, talk, and act about aging and ageism. Sharing "happy birthday" messages that make us smile or laugh in celebration of aging instead of mocking older people is an important step in changing the stories that our culture feeds us about getting older.
