New Student Checklist

One account, many applications

Your MRU account gives you access to MyMRU, student computers, Blackboard, WiFi, Gmail, Google Drive and the complete library of Google apps.

Checklist

Log into the following applications using your MRU username and password.

MyMRU (mymru.ca)

MyMRU is the hub of your account. From the homepage you can activate your account, lookup your username and reset or change your password.

Once logged in you can register for courses, look up your class schedule, get your final grades and discover what’s happening around campus.

Blackboard (courseware.mymru.ca)

This tool is used by instructors to provide course materials, assignments and other resources for your classes. You may also submit assignments, take quizzes and check current grades.

Gmail (gmail.com)

As a student you are given an email address that is made up of your username followed by @mtroyal.ca. This is a Gmail account.

Even if you already have a personal Gmail account we recommend using your school email because it also unlocks Google’s entire library of apps. This includes a Google Drive with unlimited storage, Google Docs, Slides, Sites, Calendar and more.

MRU requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) to be activated for all email accounts. To learn how to turn this feature on visit the Cybersecurity Hub.

WiFi

While on campus use your username and password to log into MRsecure, a secure network that will remember you each time you visit the school. No need to sign in every time.

Accessing WiFi (general)

  1. Choose MRsecure from available WiFi networks

  2. Sign in with your MRU username and password

  3. Click Connect

Accessing WiFi (Android Devices)

  1. Choose MRsecure from available WiFi networks

  2. Enter the following settings:

    • EAP Method: PEAP

    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAP

    • CA certificate: none selected or do not validate

  3. Enter your MRU username in both the Identity and Anonymous Identity fields

  4. Enter your MRU Password

  5. Click Connect

Free Microsoft Office 365 for Students

All full-time students at MRU get a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 that will last for as long as you remain a student. Follow these steps to get your copy:

  1. Go to products.office.com/student

  2. Enter your MRU email address

  3. Click “I am a Student”

  4. Open a new browser tab and go to your MRU email

  5. Copy the verification code in the email from Microsoft

  6. Go back to the office.com tab and paste the verification code into the form

  7. Complete the rest of the form and click submit

  8. Click “Install Office” from the top right corner of the page
