Goal: Using the preliminary LCA results from OneClick LCA, compare low carbon products and design options. This guide is intended for educational purposes and training.
This lab session will be completed following step-by-step instructions:
Part 1 - Compare Product LCA
In OneClick LCA:
Navigate to project page and select your Design Option from the completed A4.2 Lab.
Under Design Option, Life Cycle Carbon - North America, select View Results.
Expand the Section Menu of Results and Most Contributing Materials to see which materials impact the carbon footprint the most.
Click Add to Compare using the Compare Data tool.
Repeat process for other design options, for example, select 3 types of floor finishes.
Scroll to the top right and select Compare Data.
Click Edit Data and, under Input Materials, reassign the correct Omniclasses to product classifications/typologies (e.g., ceiling finishes).
Click Save after editing the input materials' data.
Return to Compare Data and select Show Comparisons for Functional Groups: Classification, Omniclass.
Choose the relevant Omniclass to compare.
Review the results across all LCA Stages for the selected Omniclass.
Click on Chart Context Menu, choose your file format, and download your results.
Insert this graph in your report template as placeholders for product LCA comparison.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 to complete for Wall and Ceiling Finishes under the right Omniclass.
Part 2 - Compare Project Design LCA
OneClick LCA allows you to compare results of your "Design Options"
On the project page, click on the grey banner "Graphs". The graphs will open below
Ensure the Life Cycle Carbon - North America (Global Warming) tool is selected using "Change tool and impact category" tool.
Ensure all relevant design options are checked off using the Compare Design tool, "showing 3/3 designs"
Pick any two (2) LCA results/graph presentations to summarize in your report.
Compare across 1. Life Cycle Stages or Elements and Life Cycle Stages, and 2. All Impact Categories.
Use the Chart Context Menu to select and download the graphs in your preferred format.
Part 3 - Build your Low Carbon Design Report
Add visuals to your A4.3 Lab Low Carbon Design report template:
Copy all downloaded graphs into the report template.
Use Material Bank to create a design mood board for the cover slide.
Insert each product/design result graphs in the space provided.
Provide summary of your results in the space provided.
Review your report for accuracy and clarity.
