Bruce & Deanna Starlight own and operate Brown Bear Woman Centre to educate and showcase their rich Indigenous history, traditions and culture. Bruce has a long standing relationship with MRU: he is a member of MRU's Traditional Thinker's Cirlce and recieved an honorary doctorate from MRU. Deanna is a graduate of MRU's social work diploma. They strongly believe that education and understanding of Indigenous People is most important step towards reconciliation. Manyhorses High School was created to serve the youth of Tssut'ina Nation. It offers a full range of program options for students in grades 9-12 that meet Alberta Education requirements and are enriched with First Nations content and Tssut'ina langauge and culture. Several MRU department of education alumni teach and lead at the school. We will be collaborating closely with teacher Josie Kootenay who graduted from MRU in 2025.
