Current Research
Lead investigator: C.F. Webber. (2018 – Present). International study of teacher leadership II Research team: 21 collaborators in 9 countries.
Purpose: This study is built on the findings of the International Study of Teacher Leadership (ISTL I), shared in a large number of publications, with major summaries appearing in Conway (2023), Okoko and Webber (2021), and Webber (2023). The ISTL II is intended to facilitate deeper understanding of the role of teacher leaders in increasingly politicized and rapidly changing cultural contexts.
In particular, the ISTL II explores the relationships among teacher leaders and educational community members, including those holding formal school leadership appointments, professional development designers, postsecondary teachers and researchers, policy makers, members of unions and professional organizations, and school community members.

Innovative Teaching
Supplemental Practicum (2026, May - June). This five-week practicum focuses on teaching and learning in selected alternative education settings. The venues for the Spring 2026 practicum were Telus Spark, the Wilder Institute-Calgary Zoo, and Connect Charter School. Bachelor of Education students applied to participate in the alternative practicum and provided a rationale for being selected. In addition to daily planning meetings with on-site mentors, students (1) co-taught and guided visiting school groups, (2) joined outdoor education excursions, (3) wrote daily reflections, (4) designed and completed reflective practice projects (integrated lessons, resource development, or research initiatives), (5) participated in weekly seminars with their faculty supervisor, and (6) developed digital portfolios that documented their practicum work.
