In 8th Grade and Interested In Auditioning for Honors Studio Arts II?
Middle school 8th grade students may attempt to accelerate beyond a prerequisite course to enroll in the next course by demonstrating practice and proficiency via a performance audition, portfolio review, or course exam as determined by the department supervisor/designee.
A portfolio is the required assessment is for Honors Studio Arts II. Successful demonstration of the skills and concepts taught in Art 8 or Honors Art 8 must be demonstrated. All students who are interested in being in the course must submit a portfolio for review by the art department.

What is Honors Studio Arts II?
Honors Studio Arts II is a course designed for students who already have a strong foundation in the visual arts. Within the Honors Studio Arts II course, students will focus on developing technical skills through a variety of art projects such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and crafts. There is a strong concentration on Color Theory and Composition.
The Portfolio
All students interested in being in the Honors Studio Arts II must submit a complete portfolio digitally through Google Slides. In order to fairly assess art skills, all candidates must submit a portfolio of projects that were created using the exact criteria.
What are the components of the portfolio?
All artwork must be completed independently during non-school hours. Click on each title for specific criteria for that requirement...
Gray scale flower drawing- Medium: Pencil
Gray scale shapes drawing- Medium: Charcoal or Gray Chalk Pastels
Landscape painting- Medium: Watercolor or Acrylic
Vase illustration- Medium: Choice of: Colored Pencils, Oil Pastels, Chalk Pastels, Markers
At least two additional artwork completed during 8th grade art class
At least two additional artworks completed during non-school hours:
Any additional 2D pieces you would like to include- paintings, drawings, collages, multimedia artworks, etc.
Typed statement about why you want to be in Honors Studio II.
If you need paper and/or supplies for independent artworks requirements, your art teacher will be able to provide them to you.
How are the portfolios scored?
All portfolios will be assessed in four categories worth five points each for a total of 20 points:
Composition: Work shows complete understanding of a planned composition, of artistic process, and decision making.
Creativity: Work shows innovative, original ideas; thoroughly developed, planned, and executed in a unique manner.
Craftsmanship: Work shows successful engagement of sensory exploration of materials, effective use of tools.
Execution: Work shows exemplary attention to detail and excellent presentation.
How do I submit a portfolio?
Please create your digital portfolio using the Google Slides template provided. When finished, share your portfolio with Ms. Paparone at the high school at tpaparone@mtps.us. Portfolios will be reviewed and you will be notified of your status during the following weeks.

Make a COPY of this slide template, rename the copy as "First Name, Last Name: Honors Studio II Portfolio," and save it to your Drive.
Share it with Mrs. Tyszka , Mrs. Neidig, AND Ms. Paparone when you submit it.
Do not send in a hard copy of your artwork.
Take a picture of each work of art the way you were taught (place your artwork in natural light, hover over it, keep your camera parallel to the flat surface the artwork is on, take the picture, crop all extra space around your artwork out, lighten it up if necessary) and upload it on to the appropriate slide.
