Hello Hawthorne and Columbus Elementary Families,
There is no better summer companion than a good book! Summer Reading offers opportunities for readers of all ages to explore distant lands, solve mysteries, and become the hero of their own stories. This year’s New York State summer reading theme is Unearth a Story. Whether readers are digging into a good book, uncovering hidden histories, or exploring the past, the slogan underscores the joy of discovery that reading brings.
While Summer Reading is all about fun and adventure, it’s also an important strategy to keep minds sharp. It helps prevent the "Summer Slide," where students can lose academic ground during the summer break. Regular reading enhances vocabulary and fosters a lifelong love of learning.
Please enjoy these resources we've put together to help your children stay connected to reading over the summer. These include suggested reading lists, activities and school-wide reading challenges!
Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!
