ANGEL & ALICIA BARBA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   3/20/24  ***deadline extended****

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA: The Barba Family Scholarship was inspired by the perseverance of the donor's immigrant parents to provide their six children with a higher education. The scholarship honors her parents' ambition by providing a Mexican American student at Mt. Lebanon High School with $1,000 to be used towards the cost of attending a four year university.

BLUE DEVIL CLUB/ANNE MATHISON QUINN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

DEADLINE: 

AMOUNT:   $2,500

CRITERIA:    Will be awarded, one each to a male and a female, who are varsity letter winners in their senior year. Criteria includes acceptance at a college, junior college or community college as a full-time student. This award is weighted towards athletic accomplishments.

CELIA SLAGER WEST-KUSHNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   This scholarship was established in memory of Coach West-Kushner who started the Field Hockey Program in Mt. Lebanon in 1997. The  scholarship is to be awarded to a senior from the Mt. Lebanon Field Hockey Team.

DAVE BRAGDON SCHOLARSHIP FUND

DEADLINE:  3/15/2024

AMOUNT:   $500

CRITERIA:   Students who have been influenced by music, theater or the arts may apply.  You do not need to major in this field to be eligible.

JENNIE ERMOLD BEACHLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  3/29/2024

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:  The Jennie Ermold Beachler Scholarship Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation was created to provide post secondary scholarship assistance to students attending Mt. Lebanon High School who are pursuing post-secondary education at a Pennsylvania college, university, junior college, or trade school. The students must demonstrate financial need, plan to attend a two or four year college or technical school, and demonstrate athletic, artistic,  musical, or theatrical achievement or ability.

JOHN B. JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   4/1/24

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:  The John B. Jones Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for high school seniors and graduates of Mt. Lebanon High School who plan to attend or are attending an accredited 4-year college or university to study photography, journalism, political science, or related fields.

KELLY B. O'TOOLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   3/6/24

AMOUNT:   $2,500

CRITERIA:  The sponsor of this award would like to honor her memory by awarding a graduating senior who will be continuing their education at a four year university or college. Primary consideration will be given to a student with financial need, who has achieved a minimum 3.2 non-weighted, cumulative QPA, contributed time to community service, and participated in extracurricular activities.

LAURIE E. LUST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

CRITERIA:  The goal of this award is to recognize and reward a senior student at Mt. Lebanon High School for achieving to their highest potential scholastically and/or athletically while coping with their adversity.

LEBO PRIDE SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:  Lebo Pride is offering a $1,000 annual scholarship to current Mt. Lebanon School District (MTLSD) students who have made a positive impact on the local queer and gender diverse community.

LEO AND MARIE RUSSELL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   3/16/2024

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   The children of Leo and Marie Russell will award two $1,000 scholarships annually to a Mt. Lebanon High School male and female who will be attending Penn State University with a preference given to students entering the School of Engineering, but not necessarily required. The student must also demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential and community service. The scholarship will be merit based.

LIEUTENANT TERRENCE MULKEEN MEMORIAL AWARD

DEADLINE:  3/6/24

AMOUNT:   $8,000 ($2,000 per year)

CRITERIA:   The recipient of this award must have earned a varsity letter in a WPIAL sport.

MARC TATTERSALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:   $2,000

CRITERIA:   A graduating senior who will pursue a degree in Fine Arts or Video Game Design and Development or similar major. It is the desire of the family that the recipient of this scholarship has demonstrated average or better scholastic performance.

MATTHEW CONOVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:   This scholarship will be awarded to an individual who had been involved in a music program and plans to attend a two or four year college or technical school.

MICHAEL N. COHEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  4/1/2024

AMOUNT:   $1,750

CRITERIA:   The Michael N. Cohen Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior (or seniors) intending to continue his/her education as a full-time student at The Pennsylvania State University or any of its branch campuses. Although academic success is important, it is not the only aspect considered for this scholarship. Michael lived his life to the fullest, brought laughter to all who knew him, and enriched other's lives by reaching out to people in friendship, acceptance and loyalty. This scholarship wishes to recognize students who embody the same special qualities that Michael exemplified.

MT. LEBANON ACADEMIC - ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  3/15/2024

AMOUNT:   $2000

CRITERIA:   The purpose of this award is to give a deserving student-athlete financial aid while he/she pursues academics and athletics at one of the Ivy Group of colleges consists of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale Universities.

MT. LEBANON POLICE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   $1500   (four scholarships awarded)

CRITERIA:  This scholarship will be awarded annually to members of the senior class for the purpose of continued education at the college, university, technical school or business school of the recipient's choice.  The number of scholarships and the amount of the award are determined by the Scholarship Committee.  Each applicant shall be evaluated based on financial need, personal responsibility, community involvement and academic achievement and must have a QPA of 3.5.

MT. LEBANON RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

CRITERIA:   Will be awarded to a Mt. Lebanon High School Senior who will be continuing his or her education at a four year college/university or business school, secretarial school, vocational school, or technical school.

NADINE E. BOGNAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  3/6/24

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   It is the desire of the sponsor that the recipient of this scholarship major in a business related curriculum and participate in community service. The candidate should have demonstrated average or better than average performance.

PAUL ROBERT GARLITZ JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:  3/6/24

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   Special consideration for this scholarship will be given to a dedicated varsity student athlete (this includes varsity sport team managers). Applicant should be a participant in the same school sponsored varsity sport for two seasons, with one of those seasons as a junior or a senior. Applicant must be able to show measurable dedication to volunteer work and/or demonstration of leadership within their community.  Applicant must have a cumulative unweighted GPA between 2.5 and 3.5.

PAUL L WELLENER III MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   This scholarship award is being given in the memory of Paul Wellener, a longtime member and past president of the Mt. Lebanon Parent's Athletic Council. Paul was a former school board member and served his community in many capacities as a coach of the youth of Mt. Lebanon and as a community volunteer and leader. The purpose of this award is to recognize and reward a Mt. Lebanon High School senior student-athlete who has been accepted to and is planning to attend the University of Pennsylvania.

POPI HAGELIOS MEMORIAL PHILANTHROPY AWARD OF THE PHILOPTOCHOS SOCIETY OF HOLY CROSS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

RICHARD J. BREIER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE TRADES

DEADLINE:  3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   $1,000

CRITERIA:   Richard Breier was a lifelong resident of Mt. Lebanon and 1952 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School.  Richard Breier excelled in technical/trade courses at Mt. Lebanon and made his career in the water heater business, including founding Water Heater Distributors in Pittsburgh.  He believed in the importance of technical careers.  This scholarship is to award one Mt. Lebanon High School senior to further their education in a technical field.

**RICHARD J. MADDEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP    (for Juniors only)

DEADLINE:  3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   up to $50,000 ($12,500 per year)

CRITERIA:   The Richard J. Madden Scholarship is a scholarship for Mt. Lebanon High School JUNIORS needing post secondary scholarship assistance. Students who plan to attend a two or four year college or technical school within the United States are eligible. Financial need is one of the most important criteria. The scholarship recipient will receive up to $12,500 per year (maximum of $50,000) if a 3.0 grade point average is maintained.  Completed application should be printed and turned into the school counseling office.

RICHARD O. DUNHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:   Awarded to a senior who has an interest in music and/or archaeology and is average or better in scholastic performance.

ROBERT J. QUINN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:   Awarded to a senior varsity athlete with a minimum 3.5 GPA.

ROBERT J. VOGEL STRING FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP 

DEADLINE:  2/1/2024  ***DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, FEB 9, 2024***

CRITERIA:   The Robert J. Vogel String Festival Scholarship is awarded annually, based on the success of the Mt. Lebanon String Festival, to graduating seniors who will pursue a music major or music minor at an institution of higher education.  The amount of scholarship money awarded, and the number of scholarship winners, will be determined by the scholarship committee. Applicants must have participated in the Mt. Lebanon String Festival during their senior year.  The student’s participation in past festivals and his/her dedication and spirit of participation to the school orchestra will also be considered. Participation in chamber orchestra is also considered.

SUSAN S. FRETTERD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Omega Federal Credit Union fomerly Mt. Lebanon Federal Credit Union)

AMOUNT:   $1200

CRITERIA:   Will be awarded to a Mt. Lebanon High School student who is the son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a current or former Mt. Lebanon School District employee who is also a current member of the Omega Federal Credit Union. The scholarship committee will also consider academic merit.

TIMOTHY C. KENNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:    3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   $500

CRITERIA:   To recognize a graduating senior who achieves excellence in the field of mathematics and plans to pursue a career in mathematics, mathematics education, statistics or related field.  Students wishing to study engineering may also apply for this scholarship.

TY SHIELDS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DEADLINE:   3/6/2024

AMOUNT:   up to $15,000

CRITERIA:     Awarded each year to a graduating senior(s) who will pursue a degree at an institution of higher learning.  A total of $15,000 in scholarship money will be given to the applicant(s) who best exemplify the qualities that Ty strove to achieve.  These qualities include a tolerance and respect for all individuals, but a special loyalty and trust shared particularly with friends.  The applicant should also possess a sense of humor to hearten, not to hurt.  A spirit of participation in school, community, sports, and church (or other religious endeavors) is also a desired attribute.  Ultimately, the recipient(s) should possess the ability to enrich the lives of others by a simple word or deed. This scholarship is not given to the student with the highest GPA/QPA, but rather a student who possesses the qualities mentioned above.   Five candidates will be chosen by our selection committee to participate in an informal interview from which the scholarship winner(s) will be selected.
