Individual counseling is based on individual needs. These services have been agreed upon by a school-based team including the student’s parent/guardian. Even students who have not been referred by staff or parents can benefit from individual counseling for a variety of reasons: peer relations, family transitions, academic stress, etc. Parent/guardian permission for multiple sessions is required.
Small group counseling will be offered throughout the year and are scheduled during the school day. Groups typically meet weekly and last for about six-eight sessions . Group topics are based on students’ needs. Social skills and coping skills groups are most common. However, topics can vary from self-confidence to peer pressure. Parent/guardian permission is required.
Classroom guidance lessons occur bi-weekly for all students grades K-5 in the teachers’ classrooms. Each lesson will be planned for 30-minutes. Lessons will include academic, personal, social, and career standards as recommended by the American School Counseling Association. Teachers are encouraged to remain in the classroom during lessons for follow-up and reinforcement of guidance topics.
