The Scream [Edvard Munch, 1893]
For our group project, we were given the freedom to design anything as long as we used the input and output modes that we had been introduced to in class.
With Halloween around the corner, my partner Melissa and I decided to make a cutout of Pennywise that would play the music "Entry of the Gladiator" every time a person touched its hand. Also, we the LEDs on the balloon to light up simultaneously with the music. We decided that I would deal with most of the coding part and Melissa with making the cardboard cutout.
We looked up pictures to reference while making the Pennywise cutout. After we gathered some pieces of cardboard, Melissa started sketching the different parts. I helped to cut out the different pieces using an X-acto knife and started painting them. Melissa did a very great job ^^!
I had spent a lot of time coding in my last project and it was challenging. However, I felt a little more confident in dealing with sheet music and coding it. After searching the web for the best Halloween music, we decided to use "Entry of the Gladiators". Melissa even found a Youtube short that had the letter nodes which made inputting the music much easier. After editing the tempo multiple times, we were able to get the board to play music that sounded like the song.
However, when I tried to edit the code to play the music only when the pin was touched, the music no longer played. After several tries and fails, we went to TA hours to get some help. Our TA tried her best to guide us and give us suggestions but to no avail. Due to time constraints, we had to resort to using the Stranger Things music that our TA helped us find. Although we were not able to make the final code work, I am proud of us for having completed coding part of the song.
challenge yourself to step back and think about any parallels you can draw to your learning journey at large, using these prompts:
how does (not) having multiple perspectives impact your problem-solving?
can you think of ways that cognitive flexibility could help you stretch in considering what courses you take in and out of your intended major(s)?
looking back, are there any times where you got stuck or spun your wheels when you could have paused to seek other solutions or perspectives? do you think the outcome would have been different?
can you think of a time when you were committed to a plan, but could have been more effective by pivoting to a new plan? what would you tell your former self?
