In this project, Marley and I planed out to create a happy birthday gift box made from wood incorporated with the Circuit Playground Express (CPE). With inspiration from a pivot birthday candles in class, we refered the avaiable example code and adjusted it in order to make the CPE play the Happy Birthday song under a bright light coupled with Neopixel colors. And, when the CPE can not sense the bright light, it will stop playing the song and the lights of Neopixels turn off as well.
In other words, when we open the wooden gift box, the CPE can feel the normal light and then play the "Happy Birthday" song with different light colors from Neopixels. If we close the box, both the lights and song will be off.
Hope you enjoy our gift box! 📦
Now, let's open the box:
"Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday to you!"
Song will be played when the Circuit Playground express is under a bright light environment. Hence, when the box is closed, the music is stop playing and all lights are off as well.
💡Cognitive Flexbility in Approaching a Challenge 🫂
Reflecting on the concept of cognitive flexibility, particularly in the context of problem-solving, it's evident that embracing multiple perspectives is more than essential. The ability to see a problem from various perspectives allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the issue at hand, ensuring that solutions are not just viable but also innovative. For instance, when working on a project, having opinions from teammates with diverse skill sets and viewpoints can cultivate the flow of ideas and address potential challenges. Hence, the collective insights make it feasible to not only carry out the project more efficiently but also to leverage each team member's strengths effectively.
Cognitive flexibility, the mental ability to switch between thinking about two different concepts or to think about multiple concepts simultaneously, is such an important skill in academic and professional development. In considering courses both within and outside my intended major, this flexibility stimulates me to step beyond my familiar territories of my field. It encourages exploration of interdisciplinary courses that could complement and enhance my understanding of iDesign, such as psychology for user experience design, or business for understanding market needs. This holistic approach to education not only broadens my perspective but also equips me with a versatile skill set, preparing me to tackle future challenges in my career.
Based on past challenges, there have been moments in which my adherence to a single perspective hindered my progress. For instance, when I was so committed to an original idea that I overlooked, which caused delay, limitations and even procrastination in the project. If I could advise my former self, it would be to embrace flexibility and openness, and to recognize that being attached to one plan or perspective is often a barrier to innovation and efficiency. Therefore, the value of cognitive flexibility is not just associated with problem-solving but it can also be regarded as a fundamental strategy for a long-term growth.
