Foundation Stage Reception children have been looking at the human body. The children labelled body parts and used their creative skills to make a stick man. We had lots of fun!
Key Stage One At the end of last week, we discovered some clues to our English learning when we found a red cloak and basket in our outside area. This week, we have impressed all our teachers with super fluency and memories when learning Little Red Riding Hood off by heart and our ideas in writing have been wonderful. We have also loved a karate taster session and have been beginning our journey with mastery of number each day.
Lower Key Stage Two This week, years 3 and 4 have been continuing their work with retelling a story, creating pictures and using drama to help them remember each scene. We explored charcoal in art and loved making our sketch books our own. We have continued our number work in maths, partitioning, adding 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more and using numberlines.
Upper Key Stage Two This week in UKS2, we've had an exciting time delving deeper into our model text, Zelda Claw. We've been reading as readers—asking insightful questions, making bold predictions, and even bringing the story to life through drama activities! In Science, we explored the fascinating world of refraction and the wonders of light phenomena, which sparked some brilliant discussions and discoveries. In Maths, we’ve tackled some amazing learning with multiplication, sharpening our skills and deepening our understanding of this key concept. In History, we’ve continued to enjoy learning about the weird and wonderful crimes and punishments through the ages—such an intriguing topic! What a fantastic week of learning and fun!
211 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%
Current whole school attendance is 97.97%
Our attendance figures this week are as follows:
Another great week of attendance! Well done to Miss Pearson's Class for their top attendance this week.
We have three school rules; ready, respectful and safe. Everyone follows these rules to ensure our school is a welcoming, safe and happy place to learn. At Metheringham, 'we do what is right because it's the right thing to do'.
Here's what our pupils had to say about the start of the school year during some pupil interviews this week:
Year 2- I am happy at school. I feel safe all of the time.
Year 6- It’s a safe place to be. I never feel lonely.
Year 4- -Everyone cares about each other, and we are all helpful.
Year 3- It’s a really good place to be and we have a song about that to- It's the place to be!
Hello, my name is Mrs. Jones, and I have the privilege of being the Assistant Headteacher at our wonderful school. In addition to my leadership role, I also teach Reception and Year 1, where I have the joy of working with the lovely Robins.
I wear a few different hats at school, but one of my favourite roles is being the PE Coordinator because I absolutely love all things sporty. On weekends, you'll often find me canoeing, kayaking, hiking, or playing golf—even though I am not very good!
I have three children, and over the years, they’ve participated in various sports, so I’m always excited to hear about the sports and activities our students enjoy as well!
Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed
Here are the latest scores on the whole-school leader board (these scores are based on their total score from the last 7 days):
A great week for spelling!
Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars
Battle of the Rockstars
Each week, we will display some stats from across the school to find out who is rocking their times tables. Here is the current whole school leaderboard.
We are the Sports Crew this year, and we’re excited to be working alongside Mrs. Jones to enhance PE and sport throughout the school. Every Tuesday lunchtime, we meet to plan sports events, organise clubs, and discuss new ways to promote sports and physical activity.
If you have any great ideas about PE or sports, we’d love to hear from you—so feel free to come and chat with us!

Thank you to everyone who came along to Maths for MacMillan Morning and enjoyed maths, coffee and cake with us. We have raised a great amount for this wonderful charity. This is a cause close to our hearts. We thank you for joining us in school!
Our Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 3rd October at 10 am.
We would like to invite the Parents and Carers of our new Reception pupils to join us for this event in school. Unfortunately, due to limited space, we cannot open this to all parents.
We are asking pupils to bring in food donations for the Sleaford Community Larder. Any donations are welcome over the next few weeks. Please send them into school with your child if you are able to help.
We love all things reading at Metheringham Primary School. This young man donated these wonderful books to school this week. He is hoping to inspire other pupils with a love of non-fiction books.
If you would like to gift a book to school, please see our Amazon Wishlist for some ideas.
Purchasing A Smart phone for a child?
Is it the right time to get my child a Smart phone? A new film by the charity Nip in the Bud discusses the hidden dangers of social media and smartphone use among children. Our newly appointed Reading Ambassadors are ready to rock their new role. They all have a passion for reading and want to help us become a gold reading pledge school. Their first job is to buddy up with some of our youngest pupils for some book buddy sessions.
A very happy Teaching Assistant Day to our wonderful team. I'm sure you'll agree that they all make our school extra sparkly and they deserve to be celebrated today!
