Learning updates

Foundation Stage Foundation Stage children have had a fun Science Week. We have created a giant robot to help the farmers pick weeds out of their fields, wrote farming poems, and talked about why farming is important and how we get our food.

Key Stage One We have had such an exciting week! Starting the week off with our Poet visit from Debra Bertulis, we learnt lots of different styles of poetry. We even wrote some of our own, which were inspired by her work! We have been investigating future farming for British Science Week, looking at how we can access fields when they are flooded, and how we can rescue the animals... The teachers were amazed at the children's creative thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills this week! Well done KS1.

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have had a jam packed week! We kicked the week off with a poetry visit from Debra Bertulis which inspired us to write some great poems. Our brilliant pop-lacrosse skills were noticed by the PE coach this week who was particularly impressed with our teamwork. Also, as part of science week we have been creating solutions for flooding fields so farmers can continue to growing crops in challenging times. Finally, we have had the last few rehearsals of our performance. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Upper Key Stage Two As part of Science week, UKS2 were challenged to think of different methods for farming in a changing climate. The children started the week by learning more about climate change, understanding what it was and how it could affect farming in the UK. After this, we researched the risks and possible challenges that farmers might face; we looked at innovations such as the use of drones and vertical farming. Finally, the children excelled at creating their own designs in pairs, for farming methods of the future. All of the learning was captured in a science week booklet, which is well worth a read. This week, we also created poems to celebrate our poetry day. The children enjoyed being creative by writing poems about rivers and science, they were inspired by our guest into school, Deborah Bertulis.

attendance

40 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

176 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this term.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.53%

Our attendance figures this week are as follows:

Wow, two classes have 100% attendance this week. An extra playtime is awarded to them both.

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  14_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 10 minutes late to 45 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

Rock Status Improvements

You can improve your 'Rock Status' by playing in studio and improving your speed and accuracy.

These children improved their Rock Status this week:

behaviour

We would like to remind parents of our behaviour policy and school rules. We do not tolerate physical violence in school. We would like to encourage families to take the same approach at home. Children need to know that this behaviour is not socially acceptable, it's not kind and it's not the right way to respond to a problem. Please also be reminded that bad language is not tolerated.

We want to raise children who do what is right, because it's the right thing to do. We must educate them about what the right thing to do is, and be their role-models in our responses and behaviour. We are working hard on this in school and would appreciate your support with this too.

Let's help our children to be Ready, Respectful and Safe.

science week

What a week! We have loved celebrating all things science this week. We have been contributing as a whole school towards this year's Schools' Challenge for the Lincolnshire Show. Children across every year group have researched farming and looked at the impact of flooding in our local area. From rescuing animals with drones, to designing their own futuristic farm, it's safe to say we have some engineers of the future in Team Green!

Visit our stand at the Lincolnshire Show, June 19th & 20th to see some of our amazing research initiatives and more!

Kingswood

Our Year 6 pupils have had a real childhood adventure during their time at Kingswood for their residential visit. Thank you to the parents who have entrusted their little people to us for 5 days and allowed us to play, laugh, believe and achieve with them. It was magical!

Year 6 parents are invited to a Kingswood Assembly on Thursday 21st March at 10:00.

Visiting poet

On Monday 11th March, we were visited by the fabulous poet, Debra Bertulis. We've even been inspired to write our own poem to describe the wonderful visit:

In Metheringham's school, Debra did impart,

Poetry and science, a creative spark.

Workshops inspired, young minds take flight,

Writing verses bold, in Science Week's light.

At the Lincolnshire Show, they will proudly stand,

With Debra's guidance, hearts in hand.

Each child a poet, on stage they shine,

Inspired by words, in a moment divine.

Now in Metheringham, poets aspire,

With Debra's lead, their spirits higher.

Science and poetry, hand in hand,

Inspirations bloom across the land.

Moving on up! Outreach

Coming to Metheringham every week in Term 5!

world book day

On Thursday, March 7th, the school brimmed with excitement for World Book Day! Children filled the corridors dressed as their favourite book characters or words. Classrooms buzzed with discussions about vocabulary and beloved books. The Mystery Reader captivated the assembly, telling tales of wellington boots and dance classes! But the highlight was the Book Swap where donated treasures found new homes! Thank you to all of you who donated books for the Book Swap. It was absolutely amazing hearing children coming out of the Swap excited to share their new book with their friends and family. And, a huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise an incredible £173.71 for our school!

It was a day of inspiration, fostering a love for reading that will last a lifetime, and we couldn't do it without all of your on-going support!

kindness

We are running low on food stock for our kindness baskets in the school office. If you are able to donate anything it would be greatfully received to support our community.
