Welcome back

Welcome back to the start of the Spring Term! We hope you all had a good Christmas break and we wish you all a very happy and healthy year ahead.

As we enter the new year we have so much to look forward to in school. We are excited to see the children grow, provide new opportunities and to see everyone reach their potential.

The start of term has been happy and positive, and pupils settled back in quickly. There is a lovely buzz around school and so much progress is being made already!

Learning updates

Foundation Stage The children in Foundation Stage have started their weeks Literacy learning by following foot prints to look for The Big Bad Wolf. Luckily they spotted him but they were too clever for him to  catch us. We then learnt about adjectives which has helped them to write a description in their Wanted posters.

Key Stage One This week Year 1 and 2 have been enjoying our maths learning about shape and the 'teen' numbers. We are starting to learn all about Kenya in Africa, and have loved reading The Ugly Five by Julia Donaldson. We have noticed lots of children this week who are Ready, Respectful and Safe - a lovely first full week back to 2024.

Lower Key Stage Two In LKS2, we have begun our new science unit. This term we are learning about sound. This week we explored how sound travels and how materials and objects can impact the sound. In English, we are working towards writing our own non-chronological reports. This week we have shared an example about dragons, this inspired us to design our own. Which is your favourite?

Upper Key Stage Two 2024 has started with a bang in UKS2. Our English has seen us focus on The Piano short animation by Aidan Gibbons, where an old man plays the piano and reflects on his life. We will be using emotive language to stir emotions and connect with the reader of our flashback narrative. In maths we are continuing to work on multiplication and in particular multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits, which has been challenging at times but we have persevered and shown real determination to make great progress.  The children have really enjoyed our PE lessons. We are improving our gymnastics skills by performing various types of jumps, which we will use to create a routine by the end of term. Our year 5 pupils have started to learn how to play the ukulele in our music lessons, so far we have learned the flying thumb and the held thumb.

attendance

66 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.76%

Our attendance figures for the start of term 3 are as follows:

Well done to Miss Pearson's Class! What a great start :-)

Term 2 attendance

Well done to Ms Vrettos and Miss Wright's class for their brilliant attendance in term 2. They have achieved an extra special playtime for the best attendance of the term.

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  25_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 5 minutes late to 200 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

Advanced warning       -school hours-

The government recently changed their guidance around the length of the school day. To ensure that we are compliant, from September 2024, we will align our school day for KS1 with KS2.

We are aware that this will increase footfall on school site and we are hoping to have a one-way system in place by September.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Co-Op Community Champion

Our Metheringham Lincolnshire Co-op branch will be raising funds for our school from 3rd December 2023 – 2nd March 2024. Please support us by purchasing in store if you can.

Young Voices

Since September our Young Voices Choir have been practising without fail every week for the chance to be involved in the world's largest choir at Sheffield Arena. Tuesday was the day that they finally got to climb on board the coach and head to Sheffield to see all of their hard work finally pay off. The stadium was packed with nearly 800 schools and the atmosphere was electric. We feel very proud to be able to offer our pupils this once in a lifetime opportunity; to inspire them with music, dance and live performances. It was simply magical!
