Learning updates

Foundation Stage This week the Chicks and Robins have been learning about the Colour Monster stories.  Our focus in comprehension was on the story, "The Colour Monster goes to School."  We have been talking about how we feel and how sometimes we feel lots of different feelings at the same time.

Key Stage One This week, KS1 have been expanding their learning about the Great Fire of London. We have ordered the events in chronological order on our class timelines. In English, we have started thinking about what we would put into our own Treasure Troves... What would go into your Treasure Trove? We look forward to seeing your special items next week. We have been looking at the suitability of different materials in Science, I wonder if any of our materials are suitable to build a house for the Three Little Pigs? Dodgeball and Football have been the areas of learning in PE this week and we are continuing to develop our knowledge of numbers and place value in maths.

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have been busy as usual. We have been learning about democracy while voting for our school councillor. We look forward to finding out who our new representatives are. In History we have continued exploring ancient Britain understanding the time of the Anglo-Saxon invasion and how they lived. The children were horrified to learn that many of the people didn't wash and so were particularly stinky. Maths has been a challenge this week to partition large number up to 1000 or 10000 and placing them on a number line. In PE Year 3 and 4 have been developing their throwing and catching skills, using different passes which they will soon apply in games of Netball. In addition to all of this, many children are enjoying the school clubs which began this week namely gardening, PE, Tapathon and Choir.

Upper Key Stage Two In Upper Key Stage 2 we have enjoyed another busy week, with many activities and learning having taken place. In English, we have continued to look at ‘The Adventures of Odysseus’, this time with a focus on writing a setting description. The children have enjoyed writing similes and metaphors, which included rich vocabulary, to create great detail in their descriptions. In Maths we have continued our work on place value, trying to understand the power of 10 as well as comparing and ordering numbers up to 1 000 000.  In other areas of the curriculum, our computing has seen us look at computer systems and how we interact with them, this has ranged from washing machines and security lockers to traffic lights. This has shown the children that technology and systems are all around us and we interact with them on a regular basis. The children have also enjoyed PE, despite the wind and rain, we have improved our Tri golf skills and practiced our passing in netball.

attendance

204 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.83%

Our attendance figures for week 3 of term 1 are as follows:

Well done to Miss Storr and The Chicks! Super attendance this week! As you can see we have had lots of illness this week. We wish you all a speedy recorvery and hope for a better week of attendance next week.

During the last school week, we had  20_incidences of lateness. We hope to see this improve next week.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

lateness

Children who are late to school must be brought to the school office by their parent or carer. Please sign your child into school and give a reason for lateness.

Thank you

This year, some of our wonderful KS2 children are busy learning a tap dance during after-school club to raise money for BBC Children in Need.  They will be performing their routine on Sunday 19th November in an attempt to beat a national record of the most people tapdancing at one given time! We are raising money via our JustGiving link below. Thank you so much to those who have already donated, we have already raised 32% of our target!!!

If you are able to donate, no matter how small, we would really appreciate the support - 100% of our donations will go to BBC Children in Need.

Together we can support children and young people across the UK to rebuild their lives.

Reading Ambassadors

Our 2023-2024 Reading Ambassadors have been elected! The Year 6s will be responsible for our library areas around school as well as looking after our brand-new reading sheds. We are confident that the elected ambassadors will help us to embed a love for reading across our school.

Homework and Reading

Thank you for the successful start we have had with reading and homework. We have given out so many house points this week to engaged, proud and enthusiastic pupils who have read at home multiple times and completed their homework to a high standard. A few pupils have had reminders to complete these tasks in the coming days.

Advanced Notice

Maths Morning

This year, we will be combining fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support along with providing parents with the opportunity to visit school to take part in their child's maths learning.

On Friday 29th September, you are invited into school from 9:15 to 10:00 to spend time sharing maths learning with your child in their new classes. Parents are welcome to visit more than one class during this time if they have children in different classes.

From 10:00 am until 10:30 am, we will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning (Parents only) in the school hall. Please bring along some pennies to help us raise funds for a charity so close to all of our hearts.

We are kindly asking for donations of cakes, biscuits etc for the coffee morning. Could these please be brought into school on the Morning of 29th September. If your donation is homemade, we ask that a full list of ingredients is attached to the box/container.

All children will receive a cake or biscuit from the Macmillan Café if we receive enough donations of cakes on the day. If you do not want your child to receive a cake or biscuit, then please contact the class teacher in advance of the day via Seesaw.

Children do not need to bring cash into school. Simply make a donation to Parent Pay to show your support.

We can't wait to see you all.

Parent Consultations

Parent consultations will take place on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th of October. Appointments will be made in due course. Please note learning books will be available to view outside your child's classroom and adults will go to the allocated shared rooms/the hall to meet with their child's teacher.

Phonics and Reading

It was lovely to see such a huge turn out to the Early Years Reading and Phonics Meeting. We value the support, time and effort that our parents and carers put in to reading. Together we can foster a love of reading in our little ones. Thank you to Miss Storr and Mrs Jones for a fantastic session.

Please Remember

Please note: Teachers are completing baseline phonics assessments in Key Stage Two. If your child has gaps in their phonics knowledge, they will also bring home a decodable book to support with this.
