 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage This week we have been exploring seasides from the past. We have compared how they are different and how they are the same as seasides now. We have also had a great time swimming and completing rounders matches in PE.

Key Stage One Key Stage One have really enjoyed using a range of punctuation in their descriptive writing about a beautiful book called The Tree Keepers, by Gemma Coomen. They have been exploring pivots and levers in Design Technology and have been making paper mechanisms inspired by pop up books. Year 2 have been programming quizzes in their computing lessons indoors whilst swimming and rounders has been so much fun in the sun!

Lower Key Stage Two This week in LKS2, we’ve been tackling our summer assessments in reading, arithmetic and maths reasoning. I can safely say we’re all exceptionally proud of how mature and sensibly the children approached these. We’ve also been testing our skills whilst using algorithms and command typing; trying to create letters and shapes using specific instructions. It was brilliant to see so much creativity! We’re coming to the closing stages of our narratives in English and there have been some fantastic pieces of work produced so far, we can’t wait to read the final products! In PSHE we talked about public and private information and why some things should be kept private.

Upper Key Stage Two Upper Key Stage Two continue to enjoy writing their diaries in the role of Michael from Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’, following the adventure of a young boy sailing around the world with his family, what could go wrong? We have seen some great diary entries as the children have really taken to the role. This week’s maths in Year 5/6 has been learning about position and coordinates, learning how to plot points and identify patterns. In Year 6, the focus has been on shape, how to calculate angles and measure with a protractor. Our swimming started last Friday, with nearly all the children getting in the pool, it was a lovely day for it and all the children enjoyed themselves.

As part of our computing we have been looking at Micro:bit; the children loved being able to create their own messages and send them to a physical display.

The rest of the week has been dominated with end of year assessments and rehearsals for our end of year production of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. The children have been learning their lines and we have been using the stage for the first time, already we are seeing children acting without their scripts, which is a promising start.

Staff updates

Miss Hawkins is leaving us today as she has secured a teaching position at another school. We would like to thank her for her hard work, commitment and dedication to our school and pupils. We will really miss her but we wish her every success on her journey into teaching.

attendance

28 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.15%.

Our attendance figures for week 2 of term 6 were as follows:

Well done Miss Storr's Class! What a great percentage!

During the last school week, we had  20_incidences of lateness. We hope to see this improve next week.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Lincolnshire show

This week some of our Year 4s have been to the Lincolnshire Show as part of the Schools' Challenge Project. This year was Metheringham's first year of entry and we have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The children represented our school with pride, and were respectful, safe and listened well. We managed to see and do so many things across the two days, including bracelet making, a livestock tour, designing our own bags, baking apple, cinnamon and raison swirls, food tasting, and much more!

The children have been working hard since January to create a nature reserve in our school grounds as part of the project, to protect wildlife and increase biodiversity within our school. They have researched, produced writing pieces, bought and planted flowers, created a willow arch, picked up litter, and built a bug hotel - just to name a few! The children then presented their work to the judges on Thursday, by singing a song they had made, and delivering their well-rehearsed speech. They answered lots of questions from the judging panel and showed off their work with pride! We also met the RAF Falcons at the end of the day, getting their signatures and pictures. And to top it all off, we were awarded 3rd place in our category! Miss Pearson and Mrs Jones are so proud of everybody who took part in this year's Lincolnshire Show Schools' Challenge - we wonder what fun next year's challenge will bring...

We would like to thank Miss Pearson, Mrs Jones and the Lincolnshire Show group for the time, energy, effort and passion that has gone into inspiring our pupils with this project. The impact they have made on the pupils and the school grounds is phenomenal. Third place is pretty special for our first attempt at this. Well done to you all, and thank you!

Pre-loved uniform

Our FOMS Team have been blown away with the purchases of pre-loved uniform. They have ran out of smaller sizes in boys and girls T-Shirts, Jumpers, Cardigans, Skirts and Trousers. As it is getting close to the end of the year and children are outgrowing uniform please bear our FOMS Team in mind before you throw anything away. All donations of uniform will help other families and will be gratefully recieved.
