 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage We have had a busy week in EYFS this week! We have had fun making our own Monet paintings in art. We have also been exploring frogs in English and writing our own acrostic poems. On Wednesday afternoon, we had our sports day. We all had an amazing time taking part in the different races and events. All the children did fantastically, we are so proud of them all!

Key Stage One  KS1 have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh in art and have had the opportunity to develop their observational drawing skills and also experiment with paint.  The classrooms have looked lovely with so many pretty flowers!

Lower Key Stage Two Wow – end of term 5 already! LKS2 have been really busy this week completing our non-chronological reports, summarising all of our science learning about rocks and soils. We have linked our DT learning to our Roman history knowledge, learning how to design, make and evaluate a catapult! Y3 have been extending their maths knowledge by solving problems about time. Y4 have been learning about perimeter, as well as learning how to interpret and draw line graphs. We have also been TTRockstar-ing ready for our Times Table Check next term! We are so proud of all of our children for their participation in Sports Day 2023 – they did a great job of being #teamgreen!

Upper Key Stage Two Wow, this week has literally flown by! The highlight most definitely was our school's sports day on Wednesday - the weather was even on our side 🌞 - and quite possibly, the handing out of playscripts for the Y5/6 play. The Year 5s have polished and presented their final Jumanji writing pieces and the whole of UKS2's Macbeth letters have been written, ready for editing and improving. Oh, we do love constructing those fronted adverbials, complex sentences and relative clauses! The canopic jars are all finished and ready to bring home at the end of term, where the children can show off their artistry with their families. Have a super half-term everyone; come back refreshed and ready for the final term of the year. Swimming lessons, Garden Party and UKS2 performance here we come!!!

Meet Miss Barnett

Hi, I am Miss Barnett,

I've been working for the school since September as a Cleaner and occasionally a Lunchtime Supervisor.

In my spare time, I enjoy building Lego with my daughter and reading lots of different books.

I am also Cub Leader for Metheringham. This helps me to learn and teach lots of new skills to children.

Meet the governor

Hello,

I am Catherine Roland and I have been a governor at Metheringham Primary School since 2016. I was originally a parent governor when my twins, who are now 13, were at the school, and now I am a co-opt governor. I am part of the resources committee; we talk to the co-head teachers and school business managers each term about budgets to support them in making Metheringham Primary the great place it is for our school community.

In my day job I am a Chartered Management Accountant and work for Dyson Farming as Financial Controller. This involves lots of time spent creating fun formulas in spreadsheets and talking to farmers about the weather.

I love spending any spare time I have with my family; I have 13 year old twins and a 21 year old step-daughter. My husband makes videos for a living and we recently filmed a family version of Come Dine With Me which we will be airing once he and my daughter have finished editing it. I am not a very good cook so expect to come last!  I enjoy swimming and especially love this time of the year when I can swim outdoors in heated swimming pools! I hope you all enjoy your swimming lessons next term, how lucky we are to have a pool right next to the school!

sports day

What an incredible day our Sports Day was! We hope you all enjoyed the fun, sunshine and achievements during the day. We have all made lots of lovely memories and the children did us all proud.

A huge thank you to the pupils for their determination, resilience and confidence. It takes a lot to stand in front of spectators, let alone race in front of them! Our Year 6 pupils displayed friendship, care and understanding to our youngest pupils, as they cheered them across the finish line and we know everyone was touched by this. We are so, so proud of everyone.

A huge thank you goes to our FOMS team who organised refreshments and a uniform sale on the day. They raised £162 for the school. Their commitment to our school and pupils in their own time is incredible. Thank you from everyone in Team Green.

End of Term 5

Term 5 has flown by. We've seen plenty of achievements, progress and had so much to celebrate. We've made memories that will last a lifetime during the King's Coronation and on our Sports Day. The Year 6 and Year 2 pupils displayed so many school values during their assessment periods and we are so proud of the way they tackled each one. FOMS have continued to raise funds for the school and have lots planned for term 6.

Our staffing team have gone above and beyond yet again with extra curricular clubs, planned events, organising visits, and visitors, supporting pupil well-being and providing training for staff in their Subject Leader roles. They work tirelessly with enthusiasm, care and commitment to our pupils and families. We know they'll spend some of their week thinking about reports and work but we do hope they manage to switch off and enjoy their families too.

Term 6 is going to be an emotional time for lots of us as we prepare to say goodbye to our wonderful Headteacher and Year 6 pupils. Transition will be carefully considered, swimming will commence and lots more progress and memories will be made.

As we approach term 6, we would ask parents to support us with maintaining good attendance levels, working with their children on positive behaviour; including keeping others safe, and building resilience and independence. We know our children have been through so much in their little lives but by working together, we can make a huge difference.

Have a wonderful half term everyone. We will see you on Monday 5th June for the start of term 6.
