 Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Children in Foundation Stage have been continuing practising their throwing and catching skills in the sunshine with the PE coach.

Key Stage One  KS1 have had an amazing science week.  We have had the opportunity to work with our friends to design and create both bridges and aeroplanes.  Working in small groups, we thought about design features of current bridges and where we have seen them.  Lots of us recognised bridges in Lincoln, Sleaford and Hull.  We used inspiration from these bridges to create our own designs which had to cross a river.  On Wednesday, we worked with STEM ambassadors from RAF Conningsby to design aircraft of the future.  We had lots of discussions about whether our aircraft required a pilot, what it would be made from and what it would be used for.  One of our aircraft was called “Stealth Ninja” and would fly at night!

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have had a super Science week. Firstly, we built landmarks out of recycled cardboard and used crumble kits to code a signal to light them up. Then, we designed our very own RAF approved sustainable military base. After that, we were chomping at the bit for more Science so we explored teeth by making a model out of salt dough. We now know the names of different teeth and their purpose. We continued our learning by exploring the rest of the digestive system all the way to the end... Finally, we explored the food chain understanding the role of the producer, consumer, prey and predator. Oh and of course we have been perfecting our Cinderella Performance, which we can not wait for you to see!

Upper Key Stage Two Wow! What a week!  Whilst Year 6 have been away on residential at Kingswood, UKS2 have been participating in Science Week. On Monday, we were inspired by Richard (a traffic light engineer and one of our parents). He talked about his job and then gave us a task to use our computing learning with crumble kits to create a code which allowed us to light up our towers,  which we made last week. Teamwork was essential. Our PSHE learning about the characteristics of successful teams jumped into action and certainly helped us believe we could achieve success. After the visit from RAF Coningsby, we applied our skills and knowledge to plan a sustainable military base and then give presentations about it. Everyone did amazingly well and we are super, super proud of our children!

attendance

38 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.18%.

Our attendance figures for week 3 of Term 3 were as follows.  Wow, Miss Pearson's Class reached 100%! An extra playtime has been reward to the class for their fantastic attendance.

During the last school week, we had  22_incidences of lateness which equated to 2 hours and 41 minutes of lost learning.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Miss Negus

Hi everyone,

I am Miss Negus and I joined Team Green at Metheringham Primary School in September 2022. I am an enhanced adult in UKS2. I mainly work in the year 5/6 class with the Awesome Ashes with Mrs Wilcox, Mrs Smith-Wood and Mrs Parker. I am also a midday supervisor in KS2. Since starting in September, I have been welcomed into the team by friendly staff and pupils and am very proud to be a member of Team Green.

I have been a Teaching Assistant since I was 17 and have mainly worked in special schools with children who have additional needs. I am loving the opportunity of working in mainstream. I am currently studying on a Level 3 Teaching Assistant course in my spare time, and hope to eventually progress into teaching.

When I am not in school, I am spending time with my daughter and my family (which consists of 2 dogs and 4 Guinea pigs). My daughter is 3 years old and is currently at pre-school, she is due to start school in September which is a very scary thought.

Outside of school, I enjoy making resin crafts. I am very creative and love to play around with resin to see how it turns out, no item is ever the same. I also enjoy cooking the family recipes that have been passed down to me from my Italian grandmother. I also enjoy baking with my daughter and going on family days out.

Please feel free to come and say hello if you see me around school.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'. There has been a race for top spot! Well done Jackson :-)

Spelling Shed

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed

Meet the school governors

My name is Emma Rees and I joined the School Governors in February 2020 just as the Covid pandemics was taking place - my first year as a Parent Governor was unique due to Lockdown and Covid restrictions.  I am now in my third year and am currently the Chair of the Staffing and Welfare committee. What I love most is being able to come into school and spend time with both the pupils and staff. I have also supported with recruitment, most recently with the School Business Manager role.

My background is in business management and I have worked for Tesco for 26 years.  During this time, I have gained experience working in various roles within retail management, people management, new stores, business and finance and productivity supporting stores across Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.  Since September 2022, my career has changed and instead of travelling north up the A1, I am now travelling south down to our Head Office in Welwyn Garden City where I programme manage all recruitment as the Resourcing Manager for all Large Stores across the UK and NI.

Both of my children are now in school, with my son in Year 3 and my daughter in Reception. I am a typical “Mum taxi” on a Saturday getting them to their different activities which are typically in opposite directions away from Metheringham.  I have lived in the village since 2007 and despite my husband growing up in Cheshire, he actually was a pupil at the school back in the early 80s.  The weekdays fly by and the weekends are all about family time either at home or catching up with family that live in the South.

Easter Update

A letter has been posted to Seesaw to share our end of term Easter arrangements.

science Week

Wow – what a week it has been! We have been exploring all things CONNECTIONS this week, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our STEM learning. We started the week with a visit from a STEM Ambassador, who taught KS2 how to use Crumble Kits to program an LED circuit. With this knowledge, the children were able to light up their famous landmark towers that they had built prior. We had everything from a dazzling Big Ben, to the glowing Golden Gate bridge! KS1 were challenged to build a strong bridge that could hold the most vehicles... Miss Pearson visited Ms Vretto’s class, where one bridge held over 50 vehicles!!!

On Wednesday, RAF Coningsby STEM Team hosted a whole day of STEM-filled fun. EYFS/KS1 built aircrafts that could travel a certain distance, and hold a passenger. Some children learnt about the structure of an aircraft and it’s design purpose. They tested them in flight during our assembly at the end of the day. KS2 were tasked with designing a futuristic, carbon-zero RAF camp. The children had to plan their design, and articulate the purpose behind their decisions.

We have then spent the remainder of the week exploring connections in science, from the digestive system to life cycles!

Well done children – you have been fantastic this week and shown co-operation, communication skills and determination! We hope you enjoy seeing our wonderful pictures from this week.

Achieve

These young men have wowed Mrs Duggin with their amazing progress this week. One child had responded to feedback from the teacher and the editing and improving that he had done. His 'Jumanji' writing was incredible because of this! What a star! The other child had independently smashed the set mathematic tasks and his presentation was lovely too. Well done!

Street Pastors

UKS2 welcomed the co-ordinator of Lincoln Street Pastors into school. Melanie explained to the children that Lincoln Street Pastors go out serving the Night Time Economy City Streets every Saturday – and the last Friday of the Month – between 10pm- 2/3am. Lincoln Street Pastors are one unit but with two sides – so one team goes out onto the street in their recognisable uniforms to give practical help and comfort, and the prayer team is doing the essential behind the scenes work, back at base. The two teams stay in regular contact with each other to make sure the City is well cared for. The children listened and watched intently as Melanie pulled out 'helpful' items from her jacket pockets and explained how they are used.........they just kept coming! Mary Poppins - watch out!
