Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Children in Reception have been making maps of Polar animal habitats. They have used some amazing vocabulary to talk about what they have learnt all term.

Key Stage One In KS1 this week, we have been busy completing our Design and Technology project. The children all designed their own finger puppets and have had the opportunity to sew them together and add features. What do you think of our designs? We have also been to the village church for our annual Christmas visit. The church looked lovely and festive and we spotted an advent wreath just like the ones we had made in school!

Lower Key Stage Two This week, in LKS2 we have been experimenting with shadows. We have learnt how they are formed, created Stone Age shadow puppets and even made the 'winter solstice' shine through our Stone Henge biscuit creations! What a term it has been! We are all ready for a well-earned break. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Or, as we have learned in French this week - Joyeux Noel!

Upper Key Stage Two In UKS2, some of the children have been re-capping perimeter and area, whereas others have been re-capping coordiantes, translations and reflections. The children have been positive and growing in confidence and resilience. In computing, we have been using spreadsheets to budget for planning a party, whilst also using our maths knowledge to help us. In our end of term PE dodgeball competition with Mr Steed, the winning team were the Lancasters!! In Music, the Year 5 children have been on a magical music journey this term with Music for Schools. Every Year 5 child has had experience and time with numerous instruments, coming together to make a musical melody! Year 6 have been using learning listening and appraising different pieces of Jazz music as well as using the glockenspiels to perform their own Christmas song!

attendance and Lateness

83 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.39%.

Our attendance figures for week 6 of Term 2 were as follows.

All families will receive an update on their child's current level of attendance. Where a child is falling into a persistent absentee category, a letter will be issued to invite parents into school for an attendance meeting in Term 3 if improvements are not seen.

During the last school week, we had 11_incidences of lateness. This is a pleasing decrease on the last weekly figure of 12.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Mrs Outhwaite

Hello everyone,

My name is Mrs Outhwaite and I have had the pleasure of being part of Team Green for the past 10 years! I have worked as both a Teaching Assistant and supported children on a 1:1 basis in Key Stage 2. Every week, I also have the privilege of working in several different classes across Key Stage 2. I really enjoy getting to see so many of our wonderful children every week.

I have two young children, who both attend Metheringham Primary - lots of you will have met them. As you can imagine, family life is very busy. We love spending time together as a family; our favourite things to do together are exploring the outdoors, movie nights, as well as playing family board games - although it can get a little bit competitive! I love to read and in any spare time you will often find me with my ‘nose stuck in a book!’

I absolutely love working with your children, they bring a smile to my face everyday and are what makes being part of Team Green so very special. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Nativity

A huge well done to our EYFS and KS1 pupils and staff for their fantastic performances of Baarmy Bethlehem. We couldn't be more proud of their commitment, resilience and co-operation during their performances. The children have worked incredibly hard on their big voices, beautiful singing and fantastic acting skills. Performing to an audience really made them shine! Thank you to everyone that came along to support them.

Christmas Fayre

We finally have the total raised from our Christmas Fayre held on the 1st of December. We raised an amazing £1328 at the event. We are delighted with this total and we would like to thank everyone who helped us to achieve this. Our Year 6 games raised £119 of this total, so a huge 'well done' goes to our Year 6 pupils and our school council stall, hosted by our counsellors, also raised £70 towards this total. The money raised will go towards purchasing further computing resources to help us teach our new computing curriculum and to help your children access this.

Our Friends of Metheringham School Group (FOMS) raised a fantastic £665 on their stalls at the fayre. We think that this could be a record for FOMS! FOMS will be selling tuck shop and any unsold 'stockings' at the end of the school day on Friday the 16th of December. Hopefully this wonderful total will be added to on Friday. Our thanks go to the FOMS team and volunteers for their help and continued support in school.

The Christmas Hamper was won by Khloe in Year 4 and the Christmas Cake was won by Lisa Marelli. Congratulations to our winners!

clubs

Term 2 saw a number of clubs on offer to pupils. These clubs are run voluntarily by staff, in their own time. As a school, we do not charge for clubs. Spaces for clubs are limited to the capacity that each teacher can facilitate. Clubs are offered to pupils who show an interest and places are offered on a first come, first served basis. Some clubs are specifically targeted at certain groups of pupils. Mrs Jones is our Clubs Coordinator and she works hard to ensure that a variety of clubs are offered over the course of the year.

Again, we would like to emphasis that we can only offer clubs where staff members voluntarily give their time to do this.

In Term 2 the clubs on offer were as follows:

In Term 3, the following clubs will be on offer:

More Clubs may be added as the term commences.

Merry Christmas

On behalf of the staff and governors at Metheringham Primary School we would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

We look forward to seeing you and your children back in school at the normal start time on Wednesday the 4th of January.
