Learning Updates

Foundation Stage We have had a busy week in EYFS getting ready for Christmas! On Thursday we decorated our classrooms and our class Christmas trees. We are so excited for our Nativity next week, we loved practising in our costumes and can't wait for you all to see it.

Key Stage One KS1 have had a very busy week adding actions to our fantastic songs for the Christmas nativity, learning about maps in Geography and doing some fantastic writing from the perspective of James in the Raymond Briggs story, The Snowman. The children's creativity and ideas have wowed us. In Year 2, the children have also been very focused and impressed us with their understanding of the column method to add and subtract 2 digit numbers. Well done everyone!

Lower Key Stage Two In LKS2 this week, we have been exploring light, mirrors and reflection. We even designed our very own reflective book bag using the most suitable material. We are truly in the festive spirt now; having read, shared and performed some Christmas poetry. We have also been inspired by Christmas TV adverts and have started to make our very own! We loved seeing you all at the Christmas Fayre. Did you spot any of our adverts up and around School? We hope they enticed you to join in with all of our festivities!

Upper Key Stage Two UKS2 started a new Reading Comprehension unit this week - 'Inspirational People'. Children have found learning about Nelson Mandela, and the struggles he tackled, quite interesting. Year 5 and 6 have continued with their 'Light' learning in Science and this week identified the colours of white light and how rainbows are formed. William Morris has been the area of learning in Art. A revolutionary force in Victorian Britain: his work as an artist, designer, craftsman, writer and socialist dramatically changed the fashions and ideologies of the era. The children have been observing and sketching natural objects.

attendance and Lateness

90 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 95.95%.

Our attendance figures for week 4 of Term 2 were as follows. Well done to Miss Houldershaw's Class for their fantastic winning percentage.

During the last school week, we had 12__incidences of lateness. This is a pleasing decrease on the last weekly figure of 17.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Meet the team

Meet Mrs Ward

Hi, my name is Mrs Ward, I have worked at Metheringham Primary School for 6 years. I was initially 1:1 support in KS1, then moved up to KS2 supporting individual children.

Since September, my job role has changed and you will now find me in The Den 3 days a week working as part of the Pastoral Support Team. This role is new and exciting and I enjoy helping and supporting children with their learning and emotional well-being.

I am extremely creative and thoroughly enjoy craft sessions with all the children in school. I like to be creative with the display boards around school and have been known to make a scarecrow or two which have won prizes!

I have 4 children, and I’m a proud grandparent of 2 boys aged 8 months and 6 months who I enjoy spending my time with when I’m not at work.

I have a dog called Reggie who you will often see me walking with around the village in the little bit of spare time I have.

This week's tweets!

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find this week's top ten.....we've almost knocked Mr Edwards off!! Keep going everyone. Well done to those children who have shuffled up the leader board.

Well done to our 'Top Rockers' from each class!

Mrs Duggin will be inviting the top ten and the top rockers to have lunch with the staff in the last week of Term 2.....who will it be?

Reading ambassadors

Meet our Year 6 Reading Ambassadors. This week, the team have been really busy sorting out the School Library - which is currently being revamped! WATCH THIS SPACE! In the future, the Reading Ambassadors will be organising reading events across the school and enthusiastically sharing their passion for reading with everyone!

Time to Shine

Our Early Years and Key Stage One pupils and staff have been working incredibly hard to put together their Nativity. This is an incredibly special occasion as it's the first time we have done this for a few years. The singing, costumes and acting will blow you away. Your children may be quite tired next week as they have four shows to perform.

This has all been done as well as continuing to deliver an exciting and rich curriculum. Thank you to everyone involved. Let the show commence!

Children, it's your time to shine!

It's beginning to look a lot like christmas

Christmas has arrived at Metheringham and the countdown is on. Please remember you can deliver any cards to the Christmas post boxes around school, hear us sing at the Village Christmas Market on Sunday and wear your festive clothes on Friday 9th December to help us make our Festive Fun Day extra sparkly.

The things you do.....

Well, it's not very often you see this happening in the school corridor. Thank you to Mr Ison and Crew for their help in the school hall this week.

The things you do to get the star on top of the Christmas Tree!

School Reporters

Hello, we are the new School Reports. We are all in Year 6 and are excited to be working as a team to bring you news from our school. Throughout the year, we will be bringing you news of important events and interviewing staff and pupils. Look out for our reports in the school newsletter, on Twitter and in the village Limespring.

Parent survey

Thank you to the 93 families that completed their Parent Survey. We are blown away by your lovely comments about our wonderful school.

Results will be shared in the coming days.

Sports Camp

Christmas Fayre

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the school and the children at the Christmas Fayre yesterday. We were astounded by the huge numbers that attended ...it was a very busy afternoon in school! Funds raised from the Christmas Fayre will go towards some additional computing resources required to help us teach our new computing curriculum.

Our thanks also go to our Friends of Metheringham School (FOMS) group who turned out in strength to run their stalls at the fayre and also in selling raffle tickets at the start and end of the school day. FOMS provide a lot of support to school, helping to finance key resources and also in running some of our school events. We are very fortunate to have such a proactive group helping us.

The results of the Christmas Cake raffle, the Christmas Hamper competition and some of the key FOMS raffle prize winners will be shared with you in next week's newsletter. We will also let you know the total amounts raised from the Fayre and the FOMS stalls.

Once again, thank you everyone.
