Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Reception children have been learning to represent numbers in lots of different ways. They have enjoyed drawing dots, creating numbers with construction materials and using five frames to represent the numbers.

Key Stage One This week EYFS and KS1 have been busy practising the Nativity. We are all really excited to begin rehearsing with our costumes and props! Year 1 have been working really hard with their maths learning this week. We have been exploring subtracting using number lines. The children used their super maths skills to solve the subtraction problems independently.

Lower Key Stage Two This week LKS2 have started learning about persuasive adverts in English. We have discussed and identified the features of adverts, and enjoyed watching the latest John Lewis Christmas edition! Dodgeball skills have been developed in PE this week, and we have been expressing a Stone Age battle in Dance. In Art, we have learnt how to draw a Woolly Mammoth in proportion, and we have started our ‘Light and Dark’ science topic. How are we able to see things? Why is the moon not a source of light? How come light can be seen through windows?

Upper Key Stage Two In Maths, UKS2 have been using manipulatives (counters) in maths to make arrays to help with our factors and common factors learning - this has been a good visual for the children to see. We've developed this learning, moving onto looking at squared numbers and what that looks like visually. Wait till we move onto cubed numbers! English and Anti-Bullying learning has been presented beautifully in the children's learning books, where they have showcased their learning and knowledge creatively, in the form of double-page spreads. Upper Key Stage 2 staff have been firmly reassured with the children's current knowledge about what to do in an emergency, during their PSHE lessons. Children feel confident in ringing the emergency services and delivering the necessary information as well as knowing how to place a person in the recovery position.

attendance and Lateness

102 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Current whole school attendance is 96%.

Our attendance figures for week 3 of Term 2 were as follows. Well done to Miss Pearson's Class for achieving 100% attendance in week 3!

During the last school week, we had _17_ incidences of lateness. This is an increase on the last weekly figure of 12.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

Cold, Coughs and Headaches

A number of absences are being reported as cold, coughs and headaches. If a child is displaying mild symptoms and is well enough to attend school, then they should be at school.

When a child is not well enough to attend, please keep them at home and inform the school office each day of their absence.

Meet the team

Meet Mrs Bates our Learning and Family Support Mentor

Hello,

I am Mrs Bates and I was lucky enough to be able to take up the role of Learning and Family Support Mentor here at Metheringham Primary in September. I'd like to thank staff, children and parents for making me feel so welcome as part of #TeamGreen.

I am the mother of two adult children Gareth and Glyn and the Nanny to an 18-month-old young man who I absolutely adore. I love walking my Pembrokshire Corgi named Ifor who is adored by all my family and friends, he celebrates his 10th birthday next week.

I love amateur dramatics and I am a member of two Theatre Companies (Red Lion Theatre Horncastle, Riverhead Theatre Louth) one of which I am part of the committee. In January, I'm going to audition for the musical Joseph to be staged in Louth in May 2023.

I have a long history with the RAF and performed at many of their Theatre Groups along with performing with the RAF Coningsby Military Wives Choirs.

I am Welsh by birth and like nothing more than watching Wales play rugby in Cardiff and have the opportunity to talk to others in my mother tongue of Welsh.

In 2017, I completed my degree in Professional Studies in Education. As they say, you are never too old to learn and I would recommend this to anyone who fancies a challenge.

I look forward to meeting more and more of you in my supporting role here, my door is always open just ask for me at the office.

This week's tweets!

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find this week's top ten.....we've almost knocked Mr Edwards off!! Keep going everyone. Well done to those children who have shuffled up the leader board.

Well done to our 'Top Rockers' from each class!

Mrs Duggin will be inviting the top ten and the top rockers to have lunch with the staff in the last week of Term 2.....who will it be?

Children in need

The whole community have blown us away with their donations towards our Run Pudsey Event. You raised an incredible......£5,516.50 through your online donations.

The children had a fantastic day, showing their support by wearing non-uniform, taking part in class based activities and of course carrying out their Run Pudsey Challenge.

Thank you all.....we are speechless!

English Open Morning

The turn out to our English Morning was incredible. Thank you to everyone that came along and helped create a buzz about English.

We appreciate all of the lovely comments that were left. These events take a lot of thinking about and organising so thank you for that recognition.
