Lower Key Stage Two We have had a wonderful start to the term and the children have settled back into school life brilliantly. In English, we have begun learning our new model text and are diving into persuasive writing this term – so be warned! We are exploring the key features of persuasive texts and thinking carefully about how to influence our reader. In Geography, we have started our exciting new topic on Mountains. The children have already enjoyed discovering fascinating facts, including how oxygen levels reduce as altitude increases and how this affects climbers. Our focus in PSHE this term is ‘Giving’, one of our Five Ways to Wellbeing. As part of this, the children have beautifully decorated stones which have been placed around the base of Elsie’s tree – a lovely way to show kindness and contribution to our school environment. In RE, we have had some thoughtful discussions about rules and agreements. The children shared many examples of rules they have at home and confidently explained why these rules are important. Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Doddington Hall, where they represented the school wonderfully and gained lots from the experience. Meanwhile, Year 3 finished the week with a brilliant multi-skills event organised by Premier Education, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm. What a fantastic start to the term – we are very proud of the children!
Upper Key Stage Two What a wonderfully positive start to the term it has been! Our planned soft start gave us all a chance to adjust after the holiday and our wellbeing lessons focused on goal setting and developing a growth mindset, reminding us all how important it is to challenge those negative voices in our heads and believe in what we can achieve. It has been an absolute delight to catch up with parents this week to celebrate the children’s achievements, and reading the postcards you wrote to your children truly showed how proud you are of them too. Thank you for your ongoing support of Team Green! In Year 5 and 6, the children have been exploring text mapping through explanation texts, asking the intriguing question, “Why are trolls dangerous?”, while our Woodpeckers thoroughly enjoyed drawing their own trolls. In maths, we have been amazed by the children’s confidence when multiplying fractions. It’s hard to believe we are already in Term 4, but the signs of spring and the mild, sunny weather remind us of all that we still have to look forward to. We are excited for Science Week next week, with opportunities to be ‘off timetable’, and Year 6 are eagerly anticipating their residential at Kingswood – we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the sunshine continues!
