Learning Updates

Foundation Stage Children in Reception have been learning to compare size, mass and capacity. They have enjoyed exploring different objects and used some wonderful vocabulary to explain their learning. The children have been learning all about Harvest this week and where our food comes from. They have all enjoyed practising our Harvest songs ready for our Harvest celebration.

Key Stage One This week, we have enjoyed continuing our art printing topic by drawing our self portraits as a line drawing, then copying this onto tiles. In English, the Y2s have been writing their stories into their Exciting Writing books and Year 1s have been loving writing their independent stories. We know so much about The Great Fire of London, we are bursting with knowledge!

Lower Key Stage Two This week, LKS2 have been busy and creative across the curriculum!

In Art, the children have continued designing and using their printing blocks to create repeated patterns inspired by Viking styles. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching their designs evolve and seeing how their printed patterns have turned out – with some fantastic results! In Science, we’ve been building on our learning about magnetism, focusing on how the different poles of magnets behave when placed near one another. The children have been fascinated by the push and pull forces at play and have been great at predicting and observing the outcomes. Drumba has been a real highlight again this week! The children’s timing and coordination continue to improve, and they’re rising to the challenge of keeping rhythm as the tempo increases – it’s been a blast! Finally, we’ve been loving our netball sessions – practising a range of key skills through fun and varied games that keep everyone engaged and moving. Well done to all of LKS2 for another fantastic week of learning and enthusiasm!

Upper Key Stage Two This term is flying by! We can't believe it is week 6 already! In English, we’ve been focusing on writing a character description using our Warning Story Toolkit. The children have been working hard to bring the character of 'Red' to life, using precise nouns and verbs, personification and 'show not tell' to help readers really picture who they are writing about. In Maths, we’ve been tackling addition and subtraction with more than four digits. The children have been using place value counters to help them understand how and why we exchange when crossing tens, hundreds, and thousands. It’s been great to see so many lightbulb moments as their confidence with these larger numbers grows. Our School Councillors and JRSOs (Junior Road Safety Officers) are already making fantastic progress in their important new roles, helping to make our school a safer and happier place. It’s been wonderful to hear some pupil voice about their recent Bikeability sessions too. Overall, we really feel UKS2 are settling well into the term, with routines and systems running smoothly. Our Woodpeckers are showing excellent 'Team Green' learning behaviours — kindness, pride, respect, resilience, and responsibility. We are incredibly proud of the progress they are making and the positive attitude they bring to every day!

Illness

Please be reminded that the following list of symptoms in isolation are not reasons to keep your child off school. We can make adaptations in the classroom and provide support and care for anyone feeling a little under the weather. We will always prioritise your child's well-being as well as their education. Thank you for helping us maintain good levels of attendance.

School Photos

Wrates Photography are in school on Wednesday 15th October. They will be taking invividual photos throughout the day. They will also get sibling photos during the school day.

If you have a pre-school child and you would like them to have a photo with their school aged sibling, parents can access the school hall from 8:30 to get this taken.

Parent consultations

Parent consultations take place next week. Please view your child's learning outside their classrooms and complete a postcard to celebrate their achievements. Your child's class teacher will be in the school hall at your appointment time.

School Council Update:

Our School Council met this week with a full agenda. Some of the older members of the team interviewed Mrs Duggin and asked important questions about school leadership.

Harvest festival

Our Harvest Festival took place on Thursday 9th October. It was a wonderful celebration of harvest time, community spirit and kindness. Thank you to everyone who attended and for all of the donations to Lincoln Community Larder.

Macmillan

You raised an incredible £136.09 for Macmillan during our maths and coffee morning. Thank you for supporting this charity.

World Teacher Day

On Monday, we celebrated World Teacher Day. Our teachers work tirelessly- motivated by care for all children, in order to provide the best possible education and a place where our pupils belong. We thank them for their dedication, expertise and commitment. We thanked them with a special lunch!

RSE Parent Voice

You may be aware of the media coverage back in the summer after the release of the new RSHE (Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education) Guidance in July 2025.

With this in mind, we are keen to gather parent voice along with the voice of all our school community about what must be included in the new curriculum before we have a proper chat later on in the year. In the meantime, Mrs Wilcox (PSHE/RSHE/PD Lead) will be working on reviewing the policies and curriculum in line with the guidance, so that we are ready to deliver the revised curriculum in September 2026.

FOMS

FOMS are running a Halloween colouring competition.

Your child will come home with a colouring sheet.

If they would like to get involved, please return the colouring by Monday 20th October and pay £1 on Parent Pay.

Inspire, Believe, achieve

One of our former students has graduated and is now running a successful photography business in the local community. We love to hear about how much our pupils have gone on to achieve.

cycle to school week

We have entered the pledge to get our school cycling to school for Cycle to School Week 2025.

Cycle to School Week 2025 takes place from Monday 13 – Friday 17 October.

Last year, thousands of families and schools pledged to swap the school run for pedal power. This year, it’s our turn!

Each class will be making a tally of the children choosing to cycle to school each day, learning about pedal power and how to save the planet whilst having fun.

The leadership team will be at the front of school every day next week to celebrate everyone joining in the pledge.

Let's get cycling!
