Learning Updates

Foundation Stage This week, we have been learning all about Autumn and the changes the season brings. The children have even enjoyed collecting conkers! With Harvest fast approaching, we have also been finding out about the important role farmers play in growing food for us.

Key Stage One In Year 1 and 2, the children have been learning all about how to carefully observe and draw their own features when creating self-portraits. They have been looking closely in mirrors to notice the different shapes of their eyes, noses, and mouths, as well as how their hair, eyebrows, and other features make each of them unique.

Lower Key Stage Two In LKS2, we have been working hard at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 in our maths lessons and have been creating rules and rhymes to help remember when to round up and when to round down. In English, we have been thinking about the character in our story and how they may be thinking and feeling. We did some great drama work, hot seating each other as the main character and asking questions. This really allowed us to get to know our main character more. We have been learning all about Viking Gods and Goddesses. We are in the process of creating our own top trump cards and have enjoyed seeing how many we are already familiar with through their appearances in Marvel! The children have also loved designing and making our Viking printing blocks in art!

Upper Key Stage Two In Year 5 and Year 6, we have enjoyed a busy and exciting start to the term. As part of PSHE, we took part in Positive Relationships workshops, learning how to communicate respectfully and build strong friendships. In maths, rounding was a challenge at first, but with perseverance we developed a much clearer understanding. English has been especially creative, beginning with story mapping for Red and Zelda Claw and the Rain Cat. This work inspired us to write vivid setting descriptions and explore personification in our writing. The children have shown great effort and enthusiasm across all subjects.

School Council Update:

The School Council held their very first meeting of the year this week. The children worked hard to assign important roles, including Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurers, and began planning their first School Council Assembly, themed “Who Are We?”, which will introduce the council to the whole school. Their important roles this year will support their personal development, confidence, understanding of a range of roles in school and of course their public speaking skills.

Harvest festival

Our Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 9th October.

We would like to invite the Parents and Carers of our new Reception pupils to join us for this event in school. Unfortunately, due to limited space, we cannot open this to all parents.

We are asking pupils to bring in food donations for the Sleaford Community Larder. Any donations are welcome over the next few weeks. Please send them into school with your child if you are able to help.

parent teacher meetings

Parent teacher consultations will take place on:

Tuesday 14th October
Thursday 16th October

Teachers will meet parents in the school hall for 10 minute appointments. These will focus on transition, well-being and starting points for this academic year. You will also have time to look at your child's learning books outside their classrooms.

Appointment times will come home on Monday 6th October.
