Year 1 and 2 Trip to Wild in the Woods-Lincoln
Vacancies
Foundation Stage The Reception children went on their trip to Sundown Adventure Land! Exploring the Storybook Villages, the Wild West, following the Yellow Brick Road and having fun on the rides! The children all had a wonderful time at Sundown Adventureland☀️
Key Stage One This week in KS1 we have loved weighing objects to find out which is heavier and which is lighter! We have continued writing about The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Tiger Who Came to Tea, extending our sentences with fantastic vocabulary. In PE we are building on our striking and fielding skills, learning how to throw the ball at a target and catch accurately. Our DT moving pictures have now been designed, and we are looking forward to moving onto the 'Make' stage!
Lower Key Stage Two This week in LKS2, the children have been very busy. During PE, they have been enjoying playing rounders, which is not only fun but also encourages teamwork, communication, and supporting each other on the field. In Geography, we have been exploring different types of settlements and discussing what features are essential or desirable in different areas. The children have also been designing their own settlements and mapping them using keys and symbols inspired by Ordnance Survey maps, developing their understanding of spatial awareness and logical planning. In English, the children are combining fact and fiction as they prepare to write non-chronological reports about their own mythical creatures. They have taken on the ‘hot seat’ role to become experts on their creatures, answering questions and deepening their knowledge to share confidently in their writing. Finally, we also enjoyed the annual Garden Party!
Upper Key Stage Two It’s been a busy and exciting time in UKS2! We were thrilled to take part in the Year 5 Maths Competition at St George’s Academy in Sleaford, where our team did incredibly well—Metheringham Primary came third! In English, the children are putting the finishing touches to their discussion texts, using our Talk for Writing scheme to develop thoughtful and persuasive arguments. We’re midway through our history topic on the Shang Dynasty, exploring what life was like during that time, how the social structure worked, and how it affected people's day-to-day experiences. In maths, we’ve just started learning about statistics, and in science, we’re powering through our topic on how living things on Earth have changed over time. Rehearsals for Shakespeare Rocks are going brilliantly, and the children are excited (and a little nervous!) for next week’s ‘no scripts’ challenge. We’re also really looking forward to the Roots to Food visit—there’s no doubt the whole school will be filled with delicious smells!

What a fantastic afternoon we had at our Summer Garden Party, and it’s all thanks to the incredible efforts of our FOMS committee! The event was a brilliant success, filled with fun, laughter, and a real sense of community spirit.
Highlights included the Year 6 garden games—designed and created by the children themselves—an exciting visit from the local fire engine and crew, and the ever-popular "Beat the Goalie" challenge with Mr Edwards. We hope you enjoyed the delicious BBQ, and performances on stage celebrating the talents of our pupils, including Young Voices, the Lincolnshire Show Challenge group, and a fantastic dance routine by Year 2.
We're thrilled to share that over £900 was raised on the first count—with even more to add from the Year 6 games- watch this space.
A heartfelt thank you to our FOMS committee for their hard work and dedication in planning such a memorable event, and to all the parents and families who came along and supported the afternoon. Your contributions make a real difference to our school community.
Here’s to many more wonderful events to come to end the year!
Swimming continues next week!
Your child will need their swimming kit and a towel on their swimming days.
As part of our ‘love of reading’ culture at Metheringham Primary School, we would like to invite parents who love books as much as we do, to a coffee morning on Monday 30th June 2025.
Come and share your favourite book, that you enjoy reading at home, with other parents in the community. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to to discuss your favourite book and swap books with other parents.
We would love you to join us for coffee and biscuits from 9.15am unti 10.15am which will take place in our staffroom. This is for parents only.
Over the past few weeks, our Year 1 and 2 children enjoyed an unforgettable adventure at Wild in the Woods in Lincoln. Surrounded by nature, the children immersed themselves in a wide range of outdoor activities that encouraged creativity, exploration, and teamwork.
The children had the chance to:
Make delicious pizza pockets over an open fire
Toast marshmallows and enjoy a classic campfire treat
Create cosy bug homes using natural materials
Pond dip—while no fish were caught (despite spotting plenty!), the children loved investigating the water habitats
Climb trees, embracing challenge and adventure
Play in the mud kitchen, cooking up all sorts of imaginative recipes
Explore the woodland, discovering all the wonders it had to offer
We experienced the full range of British weather—one day brought glorious sunshine, while the other was a bit soggy. But rain certainly didn’t dampen any spirits! The children embraced every moment, showing resilience, curiosity, and lots of muddy smiles.
A huge thank you to our parent helpers and staff who made the trip possible. It was a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
We are seeking lunchtime supervisors from September. We are looking for relief support and permanent positions. Please contact the school office if you are interested in this rewarding and vital role within our lovely school.
We also have a full-time teaching assistant position advertised on the school website.
