Celebrating our 100th issue of the school newsletter. We hope you continue to find each issue useful and you enjoy sharing our school successes.
Foundation Stage Children in Reception enjoyed a fantastic trip to Metheringham train station. They enjoyed looking for key features of a train station and loved the trains coming in and waving to the passengers.
Key Stage One What a fantastic week Key Stage One have enjoyed! To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, we have been active, connected with nature and each other, shown generosity and learned so many new things! We have been programming Beebots in Computing, have finished a wonderful unit of learning in History, where we learned about the history of our very own, Metheringham Primary School! In art, we finished our sculptures of birds. They looked amazing as a flock of unique creations! We are so proud of what we have achieved. To celebrate National Storytelling Week, we also visited the library, shared lots of 5 sentence stories and published our Where the Wild Things Are stories in our exciting writing books.
Lower Key Stage Two This week in LKS2, the children have been very busy. In English, they’ve been writing independently, showcasing their creativity and growing confidence as young authors. PE lessons have focused on exploring different types of jumps, with the children practising coordination and control through fun and challenging activities. In History, they’ve been learning about the lasting impact of the Romans, discovering how Roman inventions and innovations have shaped the modern world. Meanwhile, our Times Tables Rockstars have been smashing their times tables practice, improving their recall speed and accuracy – keep rocking those numbers! Well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm this week!
Upper Key Stage Two In UKS2, the children started independent writing. This has been a great opportunity for the pupils to show off their learning, and apply all of that creativity they have gained from Talk4Writing. In Year 5 maths, we continued with understanding fractions, equivalent fractions and fractions greater than 1. Knowing times tables knowledge including division facts is essential to understanding fractions and deepening their understanding of fractions. In history, the children have learned about Tutankhamun and his significance in ancient Egypt. They were fascinated to learn how young Tutankhamun was when he became pharaoh of Egypt (just 9 years old). This week, we have started our art topic linked to ancient Egypt. UKS2 have been tasked with designing, making and decorating canopic jars out of clay. They have learned that canopic jars were used in ancient Egypt to store organs of people as they journey to the afterlife.

Tanya, our Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog, is still visiting us every Friday afternoon. Tanya and her owner, Rachel, love spending time in school as much as we love having them. We have had many children benefit from working with her and we are excited that Tanya will be continuing to visit us next term. Children will only work with Tanya following signed permission from home.
Our Family Learning course has been a real success this term. The focus has been on having fun with maths. The children and adults have worked together to learn new skills and have been brilliant at extending this learning at home.
Where the Lurking Animals Lived by Ottilie (Y2)
Long long ago there lived a little girl called Ottilie who was brave and kind and fearless. She loved drawing about science, she loved learning about science and dreaming about science. She was science mad! One evening Mum sent outstanding Ottilie to bed without her dinner because she was being naughty. To her amazement, a jungle began to grow in her bedroom. It grew and it grew and it grew until vines grew from the ceiling, grass grew from the carpet and it blew in the breeze. She opened the door and she crept in… Unfortunately, this was where the lurking animals lived and they were wild. First the tigers roared their terrible roars. Next the parrots squawked their terrible squawks. After that, the cheetahs surrounded her. Luckily, Ottilie knew what to do. She spoke to all of the animals and said, “Stop fighting! We can work this out together.” So they calmed down and they started to explore the jungle. They roared and strolled and laughed until they were exhausted. Finally they finished their party and Ottilie said goodbye to the animals. She opened the door and she ended up in her bedroom but her mum shouted, “Ottilie, it is dinnertime.” Ottilie sighed. What an adventure!
Where the Marshmallow Creatures Moved by Willow (Y2)
Many moons ago there lived a wonderful girl called Skye who loved helping people. She was kind, beautiful and lovely. She also loved sweets, especially marshmallows! She loved eating marshmallows, she loved smelling them, imagining them and dreaming about them. She was marshmallow mad! One evening she was really tired so she took herself to bed without her supper. To her amazement, in a flash a tropical beach appeared in her room. The tide grew and ebbed revealing a beach full of sand. It grew until sandcastles appeared. Palm trees stretched really tall, taller than her house! She saw a hoverboard and she laid on it. It blew away into the sea. Skye felt worried and seasick… Unfortunately, the gooey sea was where the marshmallow fairies lived and they were not happy. First they threw their sticky marshmallows. Next they stuck out their horrid tongues. After that they glared at Skye. Finally they threatened her with the severed head of a marshmallow. Luckily, Skye knew what to do. She had a magic wand in her pocket. She had a magic spell to turn monsters into good fairies and that was what she did. First they danced and jiggled. Then they sang and flew until they were exhausted! Finally they flew into their bedroom leaving poor Skye all alone. But the portal opened and she jumped in it. When she got back, she was as snug as a bug in a rug and dreamed all night about candies.
Where the Aliens Trumped by Hope (Y2)
In a faraway land there lived a stinky girl called Hope who trumped a lot. She was intelligent, she was clever, she was determined, she was independent and she was honest but she was also very trumpy! One evening mum sent trumpy Hope to bed because she was trumping too much! To Hope’s amazement, a forest began to grow in her bedroom. It grew and it grew until a full moon shone in the sky. Grass grew on the floor and river flowed softly. Soon, smelly Hope spotted a small boat and she hopped in and floated away. Unfortunately this was where the aliens with bums on their heads lived. First they twitched their ears. Next they wiggled their bum-heads. Finally they trumped a booming, smelly trump that made the trees shiver! Luckily, Hope who was even better at trumping, let out a ginormous, rude trump that shook the earth! The aliens were amazed and Hope became queen of all the trumping aliens. They trumped, and they parped, they tooted and they puffed until they were exhausted. Finally Hope commanded them to stop their disco and then queen Hope sent the aliens to bed without their supper. Then Hope did a big ginormous, rude trump that lifted her right up and then Hope landed in her smelly bedroom.
Where the Jedis fought By Henry (Y2)
In a time long ago there lived a silly boy called Kay who loved Stars Wars, computer games and chocolate. He was naughty, he was clever and he was fast. He was Star Wars mad! One playtime Kay hurt his friend when playing light sabres. He had to miss the rest of playtime. Suddenly when he stepped into the school building it transformed into a Star Wars world. It grew and it grew and it grew until planets circled by his head, stars zoomed by and it flashed black and he was frightened. He saw a spaceship, now he would like to call himself Captain Kay. He ran into the spaceship called the SLA5 and he squeezed into the control panel and zoomed away. Unfortunately, the planet Agab was where he landed and a troop of storm troopers were guarding the landing platform 19. First they punched the green air. Next they kicked the smelly air. Finally the speakers demanded, “Stop! There is a prisoner who has escaped!” Luckily, Kay had his storm trooper suit with him and before he got out, he put it on. When he got out they gave him a light red sabre and Kay became a sith lord. Then they set off to destroy the jedis. When they got to the place where the jedis were waiting, they attacked! They clashed and mashed. They kicked and punched until they were exhausted. Finally they defeated the jedi. They marched back. Kay said, “You can come if you want.” The storm troopers said “yes” and they zoomed off back home.
