We are pleased to welcome Miss Dickens to the team from January 2025. She will be working as a Teaching Assistant in Early Years and Key Stage one.
Miss Wright has informed us that she is having a baby which is due to arrive in the summer term. This is wonderful news and we send all our love and congratulations to her and her family during this special time.
Foundation Stage Children in Foundation Stage have been learning how to combine 2d shapes to make other 2d shapes. The children enjoyed exploring bread and cutting out new shapes. The best bit was the eating part! Nom Nom!
Key Stage One We have really enjoyed learning about the United Kingdom in our Geography learning. As part of our learning journey, we have been exploring landmarks across the UK and developed an understanding of human and physical geographical features. We are almost at the end of our music sessions with the Lincolnshire Music Service where we have been taking part in a range of music games and activities to develop rhythm, pulse and pitch skills. We also embraced the festive spirit creating Christmas-themed finger puppets! The children have been practising their sewing skills, working carefully with needles and threads to make their own unique puppets.
Lower Key Stage Two In English, LKS2 have been planning and writing instructions on how to catch pesky goblins, unleashing their creativity and honing their writing skills. Our basketball games in PE have showcased fantastic teamwork and control. In Science, we’ve begun to understand the different layers and types of soil. We have examined the appearance of different soils and discussed the different properties they have. Lastly, linking back to last term’s learning about electricity circuits, children have been applying their knowledge to design and create their own light-up Christmas cards—combining science and creativity in a festive project.
Upper Key Stage Two In UKS2, we put our finishing touches to our information text about dragons and giants. The children are really looking forward to writing up their information texts into their exciting writing books. In Geography, we have been finding out about the climate and regions of North American. In DT we have been creating alarms using our knowledge of circuits. As well as all of the above, we have been finishing assessments this week, which the children have tried their very best in.
93 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%
Current whole school attendance is 97.06%
Our attendance figures this week are as follows:
Well done to all of our classes who have mainted 95% attendance or more. We wish all of our poorly children a speedy recovery and hope to see them in school on Monday for the last few days of term.
Hello, everyone!
I’m Miss Wright, and I feel so lucky to spend Thursdays and Fridays teaching Year 6. In addition to that, I’m also the English Lead here at Metheringham. One of the highlights of my week is running the KS2 singing assembly – I absolutely love it! You’ll often catch me singing my way down the corridors.
I also enjoy working closely with our fantastic reading ambassadors and sharing my passion for reading with the children. Outside of school, life is currently a whirlwind of toddler tantrums, cuddles, playing cars, and excitement as I prepare to welcome another little one next year.
And finally, here’s a fun fact about me: my favourite animal is a penguin! 🐧

The sale of our infant nativity tickets and extra fundraising efforts by taking part in Rudy's Walk, made £321 to donate to St Barnabas Hospice this Christmas time.
The school raised £1313 from all efforts made to put on a festive Christmas Fayre this year. A huge well done to our Y6 pupils on their fantastic games and to all classes on the sale of their Christmas crafts. FOMS also made over £400 profit which altogether makes £1713 which will all be spent on the children in due course. Thank you everyone.
The FOMS Winter Disco made a profit of £300. Thank you to everyone that bought tickets and enjoyed the evening.
On Wednesday, 11th December, our Reading Ambassadors and their KS1 buddies enjoyed a very special shared Christmas storytime with Branston Infants School. Connecting virtually over Teams, Miss Wright read "Is It Christmas Yet?", and Mrs. Cook from Branston Infants shared "The Christmas Pine". It was a heartwarming experience to connect with another school, and we look forward to more collaborations in the future!
Our love of reading also spread into the village this week as our Reading Ambassadors walked to The Haven Residential Home to read Christmas stories with the residents.
Please see the clubs list for Term 3. Booking is now open via Parent Pay. A full list, including links, is accessible via Seesaw. Sign up will close on 5th January.
Our Happy and Healthy Ambassadors have been busy working with Mrs South to publish their first newsletter. This will be shared in classes before the Christmas break and will also be available via Seesaw at the end of term. They really hope that families share the newsletter with their children over the Christmas break and we know that they would love to see any families participating in their suggestions so please upload any pictures to your child's class Seesaw page. They have worked very hard and we are really proud of them.
Whole school lost property will now be stored in the container on the Key Stage One playground. This can be accessed by parents at drop off and pick up times. Please do not let children access this themselves. Thank you.
The JRSOs judged the Road Safety Pedestrian safety competition this week. We had so many entries, which was marvellous. This is a photo of the KS1 and KS2 winners.
Next term, look out for our Car Safety competition.
