Foundation Stage and Key Stage One
This week, the school hall was transformed into a bustling Bethlehem stable as Early Years brought the delightful nativity play “Prickly Hay” to life. With wonderful singing, heartfelt acting, and a touch of humour, the production captivated the audience and reminded us all of the true meaning of Christmas.
The songs were a highlight of the production, featuring catchy and well-rehearsed songs that had the audience tapping their feet and singing along. The children’s voices rang out clearly and confidently, filling the room with joy. Special credit to the soloists, who delivered their parts with poise and emotion.
“Prickly Hay” was not just a nativity play; it was a celebration of the spirit of Christmas, the power of teamwork, and the talents of our wonderful pupils. The laughter, applause, and occasional happy tears from the audience spoke volumes about the success of the performances.
Congratulations to all the performers, staff, and volunteers for putting together such a heart-warming and joyous production.
Lower Key Stage Two This week, in LKS2, we have been busy showing amazing determination and resilience whilst completing assessments to show just how much we have learnt so far this year - we are super proud of everyone! In English, we have been shared writing instructions to help the school trap the Kitchen Goblin that has been running wild in our staff room! In Geography, we've been learning about the seas and oceans that surround the UK and we have become better and better at using atlases to help us find out information. In PE, we enjoyed a joint session, combining our music and dance skills to create a team dance illustrating a stone age hunt scene.
Upper Key Stage Two What a fantastic week we’ve had! Firstly, a huge shout out to our incredible Year 5 helpers and the amazing Year 6 children who participated in the Christmas Games at the Christmas Fayre. Together, they raised an impressive £262.32 – wow! Thank you for your effort, enthusiasm, and festive spirit.
In maths, we’ve been making great progress with our learning about fractions. The children have shown real determination, and it’s brilliant to see their understanding grow. This week, we’ve also been putting the finishing touches to our superb information texts about giants and dragons. The creativity and detail in everyone’s writing has been amazing. We’ve also been diving deeper into Holes by Louis Sachar – the plot twists are keeping us on the edge of our seats! In geography, we’re continuing our exploration of North America. Test us on our knowledge – we’re ready to impress you with our facts!
101 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%
Current whole school attendance is 96.42%
Our attendance figures this week are as follows:
Well done to the Kingfishers! We have had a lot of poorliness again this week.
If your child is ill but well enough to be in school please send them in. We will send them home if they are not up to learning and will look after them in school. Any days missed will mean that your child has gaps in their knowledge and they will find it harder to catch back up. Please keep children in school wherever possible.
Please be reminded that early collection without 24 hours prior notice and a valid reason is not permitted. The office staff do not have time to collect children from classes on demand. Thank you.
Please encourage your child to stay off the mud on their walk to school. Our carpets have been very messy with muddy scuffs this week. Please help us to maintain a lovely school environment. Thank you.
Hi, I am Mr Edwards and I am the Eagles (Year 4 and Year 5) teacher this year. I have been part of the Metheringham team for 3 years now. In this time, I have helped to establish a mixed football team and a girls football team in the school. I really enjoy my sports and can often be spotted on the playground joining in with football. In addition to being to being the Eagles teacher, I am the computing lead of the school, promoting use of technology around school. This year, I have created a digital leaders club to help promote computing and online safety. In my spare time, I love to practice my Spanish, draw pictures, spend time with my family, play my Xbox and build Lego.
Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed
Here are the latest scores on the whole-school leader board (these scores are based on their total score from the last 7 days):
Well done to this week's top ten!
Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars
Battle of the Rockstars

Well done to this week's top ten!

Our EYFS and KS1 pupils performed this year's nativity 'Prickly Hay' to four audiences this week. Their courage, teamwork and festive cheer blew us all away. There was spectacular singing, groovy dancing, the cutest barnyard animals, royalty, snoozing sheep and so many happy performers. Thank you to everyone that came along to watch. We hope you feel incredibly proud of your children and the best primary school in town. This year, all funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to St Barnabas Hospice.
If you would like to gift a book to school for a special occasion or 'just because', please see our Amazon Wishlist for some ideas. All books donated are marked with a special 'gifted by...' message and added to our library.

Eco-Committee Christmas Regifting Stall – Donations Needed
The Eco-Committee is organising a special Christmas regifting stall, featuring toys, books, teddies, and puzzles. If you have any items in good condition that you’d like to donate, we’d greatly appreciate your contributions. The regifting stall will pop up on the last week of term.
Please bring donations to school by Friday 13th December.
The Eco-Committee has also created a video to share more about the initiative—be sure to check it out!
Please find a link to the Young Writers website where you can enter a competition of your choice. Details have been shared with classes and Miss Wright has entry forms. We have been very successful with this in the past so hopefully we will see more achievements in writing from this.

The Winter Mini Reading Challenge is a fun online challenge that encourages us all to keep up our reading throughout the Winter. It is free to take part on wintermini.org.uk. You can collect rewards for logging and reviewing books. Whatever your interest, it all counts! You can also unlock special badges and earn a certificate of achievement once you meet your reading goal.
Taking part is simple! You just have to read 3 or more books and add them to your online profile between December 1st and February 20th. You can read anything you like – audiobooks count too! Just like the Summer Reading Challenge, the Winter Mini Challenge is linked to your local library, so you might notice that they will be advertising it too. Why not pop in and borrow some books!
Please share any pictures or updates with your Teachers on Seesaw. We would love to celebrate your love of reading in the new year, once the challenge is over.
Metheringham Primary School had a visitor this week. Joseph Begley from Hits Radio, Lincolnshire popped in to visit members of the school council, who read a clue each for Joseph's breakfast show feature 'Hide and Seek'. This will be aired next week (9th-13th) just after 7:30am. Make sure you listen in ; can you guess the place from the children's clues?
