Foundation Stage Children in Reception have been learning about shapes, using vocabulary to describe the properties. The children have imprinted the shapes into play dough and took inspiration from Kandinsky to create art, discussing the straight and curved sides.
Key Stage One It's been a busy week celebrating Anti-bullying Week, World Kindness Day, Remembrance and Children in Need. Thank you for all your support with this at home. This week KS1 have enjoyed finishing their own independent writing. We will be celebrating our stories at the end of this week - look out for this on Seesaw! We are looking forward to moving onto a non-fiction topic at the end of this term. We are enjoying learning how to create bar charts and pictograms in computing, and creating finger puppets in DT. We have now learnt all of our Nativity songs and we can't wait to start rehearsing next week!
Lower Key Stage Two This week in LKS2, we discovered a Grass Goblin was around our school. It made an awful mess of Miss Tucker's classroom and all the children enjoyed looking at the video and photos to find additional clues. We are busy learning a set of instructions to help us trap the Grass Goblin and hope that this can help solve the pesky problem. In Geography, we have been learning about the differences between towns, cities and villages ad comparing places we know. We have been working on our basketball skills this week, focusing on controlling the ball and shooting.
Upper Key Stage Two This week has been another busy week in UKS2. We have become experts in dragons and giants in English with some of our experts (children) pretending to be 'Professor Know It All' and showing off all they have learned. Our PE lessons saw us master dribbling and position on a court in basketball. In addition, we had an amazing trip to Lincoln Castle to consolidate our knowledge of Crime and Punishment. The children enjoyed dressing up as inmates in the Victorian prison and scaling the castle walls. It has been a cracking week; we have loved every minute.
139 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%
Current whole school attendance is 97.68%
Our attendance figures this week are as follows:
Well done to The Penguin Class for topping the charts this week. We are very proud to say that all classes have maintained the schools target of 95% or more. Well done Team Green!
Dear Parents/Carers,
Governor Parent Survey
The governors of Metheringham Primary School are very keen to hear your views to help develop a 5 year Strategic Plan. This is an online survey. Please access the survey by clicking this link. Please ensure all responses are submitted by Wednesday 20th November.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks,
Richard Outhwaite Sophie Wilson
Chair of Governors Vice Chair of Governors
Hello!
I am Richard Outhwaite, the newly elected chair of governors at Metheringham Primary School. I have been vice chair for previous two years learning lots from our recently retired chair of governors. I really do feel I have big boots to fill as Helen Whitehouse had been a governor here for nearly 20 years and did an absolutely superb job!
We are really fortunate at Metheringham Primary School to have such a super governing body where everyone is 100% committed in ensuring the best outcomes for pupils, staff and the wider community. As governors we are all volunteers, dedicating our time outside of our ‘day jobs’ but do it because we care about our community and want to make a difference. If you want to know more about governance please have a look at the governance part on the website.
A couple of specific roles that are assigned to me include the monitoring of the provision for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). I believe every child should be given the best possible opportunities to succeed. My previous career helps when completing monitoring, as I am qualified SENDCo so understand a lot of the complexities of working with lots of different professionals. I regularly come into school to complete monitoring. I also take part in other monitoring activities related to our school improvement plan. It is always really good to hear and see the amazing things that are happening in our school.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I particularly enjoy being in the great outdoors so will often find me somewhere in the garden! I hope if you see me about please do come up and say hello. The governors are a very friendly bunch, and like the staff have the children at the centre of everything we do.
Finally, thank you to those parents that have completed our parent survey. For those who haven’t there is still time and we would love to hear from you!
I hope you and your family enjoy all the wonderful things planned over this exciting term, as we approach advent.

Battle of the Rockstars
Each week, we will display some stats from across the school to find out who is rocking their times tables. Here is the current whole school leaderboard.
Well done to this week's top ten!
We are excited to introduce Numbots to our school. Numbots is partnered with TTRockstars and adds a number fluency element to our online maths learning. Watch this parent video Click Here for more information.
KS1 families look out for your child's login details in their bookbags.
KS2 pupils can login with their TTRockstars Login to access Numbots.
Thank you to our service family pupils for representing the school at the village Remembrance Service on Sunday. It was lovely to be part of such an important event and to see the community coming together to remember.
A huge thank you is also necessary for our brilliant school councillors who volunteered their time to run a Poppy Appeal stall after school last week. We are waiting to find out how much we raised for this important charity and will inform you all in due course.
Wednesday 20th November- FOMS Winter Disco (ParentPay ticket sales only)
Friday 22nd November- Non-uniform for chocolate donations
Advanced Notice
Thursday 28th- Xmas Fayre
On Friday 22nd November, we will be holding our very chocolatey non-uniform day. We aim to get as many donations of chocolate as possible for the Xmas Fayre Chocolate Tombola. Please bring in a chocolate donation and in return, wear your own clothes for the day.
If you would like to gift a book to school for a special occasion or 'just because', please see our Amazon Wishlist for some ideas. All books donated are marked with a special 'gifted by...' message and added to our library.
On Tuesday 19th November, we will have a photographer in school who will be taking photographs of our wonderful school to include on our school website. These photographs will showcase school, learning, pupils and staff in learning environments around school.
As we already have photo permissions for the website, we do not require anything further from parents. We do ask that children are in full school uniform on the day.
Thank you
