Metheringham Fire Station Competition
End of Term 1
Foundation Stage and Key Stage One Key Stage One and Early Years have loved Inspire Week and have enjoyed mixing between the classes to enjoy learning with children from across the Early Years and KS1 classes. The Chicks, Robins, Puffins and Kingfishers all mixed to visit a different classroom each day and had a wonderful time learning about different people who help us in our community. We enjoyed learning about fire fighters in the Chick's classroom (and even got sprayed with water!), the police force in the Robin's classroom with talking police-officers, we got creative learning about community in the Puffin's classroom and all about the ambulance service and about doctors and nurses in the Kingfisher classroom with lots of roleplay and art activities. The children's behaviour was exceptional and everyone enjoyed themselves!
Lower Key Stage Two This week, in years 3 and 4, we have been partitioning numbers in maths and using this knowledge to cross boundaries of 10 and 100. In science, we explored which materials were conductors and insulators and used our knowledge of how to make a simple circuit to investigate our predictions. In art, we created our final cave art scenes using a mix of charcoal and chalk and tried to tell a story of a stone age hunt. In history, we have been learning about the iron age and the important role hill forts played in protecting people from these new, stronger weapons.
Upper Key Stage Two A whole term has passed already. Upper Key Stage 2 have had a blast! This week has been " Inspire Week" and we are ending the term on a high. The past weeks have already been full of creativity, reflection, and inspiration for Team Green. During Inspire Week, we came together to create a class Remembrance canvas, honouring those who sacrificed themselves for our country in past conflicts and more recent ones. The Woodpecker's class beautifully depicted a Spitfire soaring through the sky, spilling blood-red poppies, symbolising both bravery and loss. At the same time, we have been equally creative, exploring the intricate designs of William Morris, while also crafting suspense stories. Our independent writing has been a true highlight, showcasing how the term’s Talk 4 Writing learning journey has pushed the children to excel in vocabulary, sentence structure, and building atmosphere in their writing. It has been wonderful to witness their growth as confident, expressive young writers. Thank you to everyone who has supported with homework and home reading following our expectations. It really does make a difference to your children.
We wish you a happy and healthy half term break.

It's amazing to see all classes meeting our target of 97% or more. Well done for a fantastic term of attendance at school. What a great start!
Hello, my name is Mrs Leeks and I am the year three teacher and maths subject leader. I've only just joined Team Green this year, but I already feel like part of the family!
I've been teaching for 9 years and been subject leader of maths for 6 years of those years. I have a real passion for ensuring everyone believes in themselves and for helping everyone to shine. I'm so pleased to be part of the team that helps the children of Metheringham love maths and enjoy the challenges it can present.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my children and family, going on walks in the woods, playing at the park and baking. I find it hard to put Lego down once I get started and the same happens with a good book!
We now have a team of 16 Happy and Healthy Ambassadors from each class in school. This is a new role for this year, with a focus on mental health and well-being. The ambassadors will work with Mrs South regularly to learn new ideas and tips for supporting their peers in feeling happy, safe and making healthy lifestyle choices. The team aims to send their tips and ideas around school in the format of a newsletter- written by the children. Look out for their first edition next half term.

Well done to this week's top ten! There's improved speed and accuracy from you all!
Thank you to everyone who attended Parent Teacher Consultations this week. We feel incredibly lucky to have such wonderful relationships with our parents and families. It was incredible to hear so much positive feedback and see parents enjoying their child's learning and progress. We think your children are pretty special and we hope you all feel very proud of them.
Please help us by working on the 'next steps' shared by staff. Through continued partnership, our little ones will achieve their potential.
This term, our dedicated children on the Eco-Committee have been hard at work on a creative and eco-friendly project – building a Minion scarecrow using sustainable materials! The team collected, cleaned, and creatively connected used crisp packets to form the outfit of the scarecrow, showcasing their commitment to recycling and reusing everyday items.
The impressive Minion scarecrow will be proudly displayed at Doddington Hall from Saturday 19th until Sunday 27th October, where it will inspire visitors to think about the importance of sustainability in fun and inventive ways. Be sure to check it out if you're visiting!
We must give a special thanks to Wrays & Sons for the donation of straw bales and Sleaford Leisure centre for donating the wonderful woggle arms.
