Learning Updates

Foundation Stage This week, the Reception children have been using different materials to create self-portraits.  They had great fun in the garden looking at their features and placing their eyes and nose in the right place.  Lots of funny faces being pulled in the mirrors!

Key Stage One In KS1 this week we have loved exploring Frida Kahlo further in our sketchbooks, and learning how to draw a self-portrait. We've enjoyed creating our own spine poems in English, thinking about creative adjective and verb choices. We've also enjoyed the sunshine in our football PE sessions. Thank you for all the support at home with home learning and reading, we've handed out so many house points already!

Lower Key Stage Two This week in years 3 and 4, we have been exploring partitioning numbers in maths using a range of manipulatives and strategies. In science, we have continued our electricity learning by exploring how to make a simple circuit.

In English, we have begun learning a story by heart, using a story board and actions to help us remember.  We are so impressed with how the children are retelling it.

Upper Key Stage Two What a fantastic week 3! The children in Upper Key Stage 2 have really begun embracing their new routines and building strong relationships with their peers and class staff. We are especially proud of the confidence they are developing as positive learners, adopting a growth mindset in every challenge. This week, we thoroughly enjoyed learning our model text, Zelda Claw, using actions to help us remember the storyboard and bring it to life. With this knowledge and their expanding vocabulary, the children have crafted some high-quality setting descriptions that truly impressed us! In maths, their understanding of place value has flourished as we explored numbers up to 10,000,000, while in science, we honed our pattern-seeking skills during an exciting investigation of changing shadows. It’s been a busy but rewarding week, filled with progress and achievement.

attendance

227 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%

Current whole school attendance is 98.16%

Our attendance figures this week are as follows:

Wow, what a great week of attendance!

On Thursday, every child was in school on time and no one was off with illness or appointments. This means we had 100% attendance. This hasn't happen in about 7 years. We rewarded everyone with a sticker or a duck!

safeguarding

Safeguarding is of paramount importance and keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility. We have three designated safeguarding leaders in school and all staff have up to date safeguarding training. If you have a concern about a child, please speak to one of our safeguarding leads or contact Children's Services using the number below.

Meet the team

Hi, I'm Mrs Freeman and I am the Deputy Headteacher and Year 6 teacher here at Metheringham Primary School.

I first started working in school in 2006 (I know, it feels like a lifetime ago!) when I was very new to teaching. Over the years, I have spent much of my time in Upper Key Stage 2, helping to shape the learning experiences of our older children as they prepare for the next stage of their education. I have also worked in Year 3, 4 and 5 at times too.

One of my absolute favourite parts of the job is taking the children on our annual residential trip to Kingswood. There’s nothing quite like watching children grow in confidence, face their fears, and become more independent—plus, I get to join in on all the fun activities too! (Who doesn’t love a bit of abseiling, right?)

In addition to my teaching role, I’m also the school’s Attendance Champion and lead on curriculum development and assessment. I have a particular love for Maths and am often found happily immersed in a spreadsheet - much to the amusement of the other staff! My week is split between being in the classroom for three days, where I stay closely connected to teaching and learning, and working closely with Mrs Duggin in the office for two days, focusing on my leadership responsibilities.

Outside of school, I’m a busy parent of two boys, often found being 'mum's taxi' driving them to their activities or cheering them on at football matches and swimming lessons. It’s can be full-on, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

This week's X Posts

There's a lot of sibling rivalry this week in the race for top spot!

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Battle of the Rockstars

Each week, we will display some stats from across the school to find out who is rocking their times tables. Here is the current whole school leader board. Watch out Mrs Freeman one of our Year 4's is coming for you!

House captains

Our Year 6 house captains and vice captains have been selected. They will be representing the Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancasters as they battle it out each week to earn the most house points. House points are earned through peg ups, completion of homework and through reading at home.

school councillors

Our school council has been elected! 👏 The children have gone through a democratic process, whereby they expressed their interest and wrote and presented their manifestos to their fellow class members. Names were put forward and last week the whole school underwent the election process, resulting in 18 children being elected as a Metheringham Primary School Councillor. What an amazing show of 'pupil voice'.

Reading at home

It was lovely to see families at our Early Years Reading and Phonics Meeting. We value the support, time and effort that our parents and carers put in to reading. Together we can foster a love of reading in our little ones. Thank you to Miss Storr and Mrs Jones for a fantastic session.

Please Remember

Please note: Teachers are completing baseline phonics assessments in Key Stage Two. If your child has gaps in their phonics knowledge, they will also bring home a decodable book to support with this.

maths morning

This year, we will be combining fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support along with providing parents with the opportunity to visit school to take part in their child's maths learning.

On Friday 27th September, you are invited into school from 9:15 to 10:00 to spend time sharing maths learning with your child in their new classes. Parents are welcome to visit more than one class during this time if they have children in different classes.

From 10:00 am until 10:30 am, we will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning (Parents only) in the school hall. Please bring along some pennies to help us raise funds for a charity so close to all of our hearts.

We are kindly asking for donations of cakes, biscuits etc for the coffee morning. Could these please be brought into school on the morning of 27th September. If your donation is homemade, we ask that a full list of ingredients is attached to the box/container.

All children will receive a cake or biscuit from the Macmillan Café if we receive enough donations of cakes on the day. If you do not want your child to receive a cake or biscuit, then please contact the class teacher in advance of the day via Seesaw.

Children do not need to bring cash into school. Simply make a donation to Parent Pay to show your support.

We can't wait to see you all.

FOMS

Our FOMS team and the support from parents at Friday's Pop Up Event raised over £219 for the school. Thank you to everyone for your support.

Harvest Festival

Our Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 3rd October at 10 am.

We would like to invite the Parents and Carers of our new Reception pupils to join us for this event in school. Unfortunately, due to limited space, we cannot open this to all parents.

We are asking pupils to bring in food donations for the Sleaford Community Larder. Any donations are welcome over the next few weeks. Please send them into school with your child if you are able to help.

Open Morning
