Learning Updates
Foundation Stage Reception children have started their phonics learning and have enjoyed completing activities to help them learn the new sounds.
Key Stage One What a wonderful start to the school year we have enjoyed in Year 1 and 2. We've been learning to work together in our new classes and sharing lots of creative writing ideas. We have loved meeting our PE coach and learning how to trap the ball in football and learning about Frida Kahlo in art.
Lower Key Stage Two This week in years 3 and 4, the children have been generating some amazing vocabulary to write descriptions and to create Spine Poems. In history, they have begun to investigate timelines and to understand just how long ago the Stone age really was. They created some super examples of cave art, using different techniques, mediums and tools. Additionally, they have enjoyed their first French lesson of the year.
Upper Key Stage Two The children have come back to school with an amazing attitude towards their learning and they are trying so hard. In UKS2 we have been practicing our descriptive skills in English. Through lots of class discussion and working collaboratively , we have been able to make some fantastic sentences. The children have also been enjoying taking part in netball and Drumba in our PE lessons.
attendance
250 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.3%
Current whole school attendance is 98.36%
Our attendance figures this week are as follows:
Wow, our littlest pupils have achieved 100% attendance in their first full week at school. An extra special playtime is awarded to them! I hope you all have a restful weekend, it's been a busy week.
Absences
If your child is ill or unable to come to school, please remember to contact school each morning they are absent. You can:
speak to the school office
email enquiries@metheringham.lincs.sch.uk
leave a message on the school answerphone.
Please leave the name of your child, their class and the reason for absence. We have a legal responsibility to know where our pupils are and to accurately record absences.
If we have not seen a child for 3 or more days, we may carry out a safe and well-check for safeguarding reasons.
Meet the team
Hi Everyone,
I have had the pleasure of working at Metheringham Primary School for the last 17 years. I was lucky enough to start my teaching career in Foundation Stage at this wonderful school. I have come to know and love this community as a teacher, Senior Leader, Co-Headteacher and now Headteacher for the second year.
Metheringham Primary School is a special place full of wonderful children, staff and families. I have worked closely with the families of the school for 17 years and I have watched them grow and flourish in this time. As a school, we pride ourselves on our commitment to build positive relationships, support well-being, foster parent partnerships and deliver our wonderfully rich curriculum. Team Green inspire me everyday with their passion, enthusiasm, care and commitment. I love our school community and I've always said, 'If I were a stick of green rock, I would say Metheringham right through the middle'.
You will find myself, Mrs Freeman (Deputy Headteacher) or Mrs Jones (Assistant Headteacher) at the front of school for 'meet and greet' throughout the week. Please come and say hello if you haven't met us yet.
Out of school, I have a family that are my pride and joy. I enjoy nothing more than long, muddy dog walks with my beautiful beagle and reading books with my little boy who is already in Year One at his school.
Mrs Duggin
Headteacher

FOMS
Check out the Friends of Metheringham School (FOMS) Facebook Page.
Our FOMS Team are in desperate need of volunteers. You could offer support by:
Helping on a stall at an event
Supporting the team at pop up events
Presenting gifts to pupils in school
Speaking with parents about FOMS
Helping to approach companies for donations
Helping with uniform sales via the facebook page
Helping with ideas for future events
Picking up stock for events
Without FOMS we wouldn't be able to offer all of the wonderful opportunities and resources that they fund raise for. Last year they have helped with:
Mini First Aid workshops for all pupils
Ipads to support the computing curriculum
Medals and frozen treats for Sports Day
Bookbags for all of our new starters
Upgrading technology in the hall
Buddy benches for the playground
Please come and see the school office or contact FOMS via the Facebook Page if you can offer even the smallest bit of help. Thank you
Harvest Festival
Our Harvest Festival will take place on Thursday 3rd October at 10 am.
We would like to invite the Parents and Carers of our new Reception pupils to join us for this event in school. Unfortunately, due to limited space, we cannot open this to all parents.
We are asking pupils to bring in food donations for the Sleaford Community Larder. Any donations are welcome over the next few weeks. Please send them into school with your child if you are able to help.
