Learning Updates

Foundation Stage This week, the Reception children have been focusing on subtraction in maths.  They used different mathematical equipment and developed their vocabulary.

Key Stage One It has been a fantastic week of learning in Key Stage One where we have been beginning to learn about position and direction and statistics in maths. In English, we finished our super minibeast kennings and published them to our Exciting Writing books and in PE, we got very musical (and sweaty!) doing Drumba. We can't wait to return to school after half term to get the drumsticks out some more!

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have been writing brilliant letters in English this week. They have imagined they are evacuees and written a letter home to share their experiences.  This terms artwork has been amazing. We have been creating portraits in a cubism style. The children have enjoyed exploring different shapes, colours and mediums in this unit. Finally, the weather may have prevented us from doing some PE lessons outside, but we have been lucky enough to enjoy a drumba session … both teachers and children have loved the collaboration of music and exercise.

Upper Key Stage Two As we arrive at the end of another jam packed term, we are filled with pride and excitement reflecting on the accomplishments of our Upper Key Stage 2 children.  Last week, our annual Sports Day was a resounding success. Not just because of how blessed we were with the weather, but how the children showcased their athletic prowess, teamwork, and sportsmanship. To end Term 5, the children have been designing, making and evaluating their Mayan Masks in art. Many considerations have been made re colours, materials and tools, whilst thinking about the effect and the overall finished product. Term 6 will be here in a flash and with it brings the all important END OF YEAR PERFORMANCE! The children will now have been told their parts and will be coming home with their scripts. Enjoy the half-term break with your children. May it be a safe and sunny one. I'm sure by the end of it, you'll know the script off by heart! Oh, What a Knight!!

attendance

25 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

139 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this term.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.48%

Our attendance figures this week are as follows:

Well done to The Robins! A great week for excellent attendance.

challenge

We would like to end the year with an overall whole school attendance figure of over 96%. This is doable but we need everyone to help us by being at school every day until the end of the academic year.

If we can smash 96% by the end of the academic year, Mrs Duggin will reward the whole school with a fun, free and fabulous afternoon! How amazing would that be!

Let's do this!

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  21_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 5 minutes late to 152 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

It's time for a TTRockstars shake up!

Each week this term we will be focusing on effort. Mrs Duggin can see how many days each child has logged in and played TTrockstars. Each week she will award house points to each child which equates to the total number of days played that week. If you play every day you can earn a total of 7 house points for your team and maybe a 'quacking' prize if you put in the most effort across the term.

How many house points will you earn in the next 7 days?

Well done to Miss Tucker's Class for the most effort in the last 7 days! There are lots of housepoints coming your way!

Spelling Shed

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed

Here are the latest scores on the whole-school leader board (these scores are based on their total score from the last 7 days):

Well done to Max, you are smashing your spellings!

Have you tried the new Mastery Zone game on Spelling Shed?

Please save the date: Saturday 29th June 2024

We would like to see as many families at the event as possible, in order to support our much loved pool, and to raise much needed funds.

Your child's class swimming slot and a sponsorship form was sent home this week. Please see Seesaw for more information.

School Swimming Lessons

In term 6, all classes will receive swimming lessons as part of our curriculum offer. We are very lucky to be able to provide this free of charge to our families.

Your child will need their swimming kit and a towel on their swimming days. Please see Seesaw for more information.

Amazon wishlist

The school has set up an amazon wishlist with a whole host of ideas if anyone would like to donate something to the school. We will write inside the front cover of any books to say who it was donated by, and add the books to our school library. You are invited to donate a book on your child's birthday to mark the special day. Thank you for your ongoing support.

reading and homework expectations

Please take some time to remind your child of the school's expectations for reading and homework. We are seeing an increase in pupils who are not engaging with regular reading at home and this will impact on academic progress. Please help us by making daily reading a habit, the best kind of habit.

growing up

In term 6, all year groups will cover the topic 'growing up' as part of their Relationships and Health Education (RHE) learning.

When our RHE curriculum was designed in 2020, we consulted with parents. However, it is important that we continue to share information in this area with families.

Class teachers will post letters to parents and carers via Seesaw to give a summary of topic areas covered by each year group. These letters can also be found on our website with other information about our RHE and PSHE curriculum and policies:

End of Term

This term has been full of achievements, positivity, growth and success. There is so much to be said for hard work, hard thinking and pure determination to succeed. Thank you to all of our children for the fun, the proud moments and for their excellent attitudes.

To our parents, thank you for your continued support and for your hard work. Helping your little ones to be the best that they can be is a shared goal. They thrive through our successful partnerships and we really couldn't do it without you.

My highlight of the term was our Sports Day and seeing our whole community come together for our pupils. Metheringham Primary is the best place to be because of you all!

We wish our wonderful staffing team a relaxing week with their families. It's time to make memories and time to focus on you! You deserve it.
