Learning updates

Foundation Stage In the Early Years this week, we have been nicely wrapped up while we learn in our garden.  We have been developing our fine motor skills to retrieve counting objects from the net.  This week’s mathematical learning has focused on the number six and we have been using the part whole model to develop our understanding.

Key Stage One In KS1, we have been learning about the country of Kenya.  We know lots of interesting facts and can’t wait to learn more next week.  In PE, we have been focusing on jumps and balances in gymnastics and worked well with our peers.  By the end of the term, we will have the skills to put together a routine to show to our friends.

Lower Key Stage Two Year 3 and 4 have had a creative week.  On Tuesday, the children took part in a cooking workshop.  Each child enjoyed an opportunity to prepare food, cook and best of all, taste! It was great to see so many children being enthusiastic about cooking Greek food, with many pupils being excited about sharing the recipe, and their cooking skills, with their grown-ups at home.  The recipe has been sent out on Seesaw.  It would be great to see some photos from families who have made and enjoyed this recipe.  In Maths, year 3 and 4 have been focusing on 2 digit and 1 digit multiplication. Pupils have been guided in supported in hand writing, focusing particularly on joining up lettering and correct letter formation.  Our science topic this term is exploring sound; learning how sound waves travel to our ears by conducting practical investigations using drums and other instrument.  Hopefully our sound waves didn't upset the other classes!

Upper Key Stage Two Even though the weather has taken a 'Baltic' change, UKS2 are thawing through nonetheless! In English, the children's writing is progressing well: experimenting with sentence structures, mapping out narratives and understanding how flashbacks work as well as using figurative language to help create mood. In maths, the children have been tackling short division and with remainders no less. Their determination and perseverance with this area of learning has been inspiring! In RE, the children have been learning about what it means to 'Belong' for different cultures, this term, specifically, looking at the different rites of passage for Hindus. In geography, the children have been exploring rivers: The water cycle; how a river is formed, how it transports, deposits and transforms the landscape, and this week, why they are so important. Just another exciting week in the learning journey of upper key stage 2!

attendance

59 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.79%

Our attendance figures this week are as follows:

Well done Year 2! What a great week :-)

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  21_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 5 minutes late to 310 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 3 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

It's time for a shake up!

Next week, Mrs Duggin will be inviting anyone who improves their 'Rock Status' to have lunch with the staff. You can improve your 'Rock Status' by playing in studio and improving your speed and accuracy.

These children improved their Rock Status this week:

Harry became a Busker

Bella became a Gigger

Sophie became a Gigger

Roseanne became a Gigger

Elsie became an Unsigned Act

Emily became a Breakthrough Artist

Islay became a Headliner

Advanced Notice

Jewellery

A number of pupils have been asked to remove jewellery this week. Please help us by following policy and ensure that your child does not come to school wearing jewellery. Watches are permitted but no smart watches please.

Pupils will be asked to remove jewellery that is not permitted and this will be kept in the office for collection by parents.

Thank you

Mobile Phones

With internet safety week fast approaching, and the world of technology evolving so quickly for our little people, we would like to ask parents to think about how they currently monitor their child's communication online.

Monitoring is part of our role as parents and educators, and we need to do this for many reasons:

There are many apps that can help parents view their child's messages and that will install parental controls. Sometimes the best way to monitor devices is by simply doing spot-checks and having open and honest conversations.

So, I ask you all this....when was the last time you checked your child's messages and online communications?

If we all do a spot-check tonight, maybe we can help someone that needs it.

Advanced warning       -school hours-

The government recently changed their guidance around the length of the school day. To ensure that we are compliant, from September 2024, we will align our school day for KS1 with KS2.

We are aware that this will increase footfall on school site and we are hoping to have a one-way system in place by September.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Co-Op Community Champion

Our Metheringham Lincolnshire Co-op branch will be raising funds for our school from 3rd December 2023 – 2nd March 2024. Please support us by purchasing in store if you can.

Amazon wishlist

The school has set up an amazon wishlist with a whole host of ideas if anyone would like to donate something to the school. We will write inside the front cover of any books to say who it was donated by, and add this to our school library. You are invited to donate a book on your child's birthday to mark this special day. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Support

We have a wonderful staffing team who care and who are available to help with worries, concerns or requests for support. Please follow procedure in making an appointment with the class teacher in the first instance. The class teacher can offer help, reassurance or advice, and make referrals to the leadership team, SENDCO or Pastoral Team if necessary. Meetings will be arranged at a date and time that is convenient to both you and the staff member.

Thank you
