Learning updates

Foundation Stage and Key Stage One Early Years and KS1 have had a busy week this week.  We have had the opportunity to read some lovely new Christmas texts.  The Chicks and Robins have been to visit the village library and have selected a library book to bring back to school.  The whole key stage walked to St Wilfred's church on Wednesday for our annual Christmas celebration.  It was a delight to hear the children sing some of our Nativity songs again.

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have had a fantastic week. We have written some brilliant journey stories exploring different lands. In PE, we have performed our Greatest Showman Dance routines, we have got some brilliant choreographers and dancers. We can not wait for our turn to put on a lower key stage performance. Finally, we have some sneaky elves in school creating mischief but also spreading Christmas cheer.

Upper Key Stage Two Christmas might be approaching fast, but learning continues in UKS2, albeit with a festive twist! . We've begun our diary writing unit using the beautiful story, "The Best Christmas Present in the World" by Michael Morpurgo and the 2014 Sainsbury's Christmas advert. Both focussing on the Christmas Truce of 1914. In maths, the Woodpeckers have been tackling multi-step word problems using our 'Advent Calenbar' that is to say we have been using the bar model approach.  In other problem solving, we've been showing determination and resilience in our Design and Technology unit of cam mechanism toys. It is definitely not as easy as it looks to make one!

attendance

70 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.86%

Our attendance figures for week 7 of term 2 are as follows:

Well done to Mrs Jones Class, this is a great percentage during a week or poorliness across the school.

House points

The Lancasters were the winning house this term with the most house points for Term 2. They have collectively gained house points for homework, reading at home, behaviour and attitudes and lovely learning. They will be rewarded by meeting together as a team and having a reward with Mrs Duggin.

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  21_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 3 minutes late to 70 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

Well done to those of you who have improved your speed and accuracy!

Spelling Shed

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed

Here are the latest scores on the whole-school leader board (these scores are based on their total score from the last 7 days):

Wow! Look at those scores :-)

TALK PANTS

Staff have delivered an age and stage appropriate 'Talk PANTS' lesson to all classes this week. Talk PANTS is an NSPCC initiative to help children understand their body belongs to them, and they should tell a safe adult they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in this year's Advent Reading Challenge. We have given away some fantastic festive books and inspired pupils to read. The amount of engagement and effort hasn't gone unnoticed and we are incredibly proud of the reading habits that pupils have got into. We hope to see these stick in the new year!

We will continue to pick winners until the end of term. Our 'book tree' is a lot shorter but we have made lots of pupils very happy.

Uniform

After considering the feedback from parents in our recent uniform consultation, we have decided to have a single colour option of black for trousers, skirts and dresses. Blue will be phased out across this academic year and all pupils are expected to wear black only from September 2024. Thank you to parents for your valuable feedback. It's good to see many of you agreeing that more consistency is needed and that a single colour would make expectations clearer. Our policy is available on the school website and a notice about the transition period is included on the front page.

Co-Op Community Champion

Our Metheringham Lincolnshire Co-op branch will be raising funds for our school from 3rd December 2023 – 2nd March 2024. Please support us by purchasing in store if you can.

End of Term 2

How are we talking about the end of Term 2 already?

It's been a long, fun and festive term in school and we have seen so much growth, progress and confidence from our pupils. It has been wonderful to see children shine on stage, raise funds for important events and to continue to be inspired by our curriculum and incredible staffing team. Children, you make everyday worthwhile and we love watching you grow!

Our FOMS team have once again outdone themselves with a wonderful Christmas Fayre, raffles and a Winter Disco. This has all been achieved on a voluntary basis and with our pupils at the heart of all of their efforts.

Parents, we thank you for your ongoing support, feedback and appreciation. Your children make our days bright and sparkly and we thank you for choosing us. We couldn't do it without you.

Lastly, to our staff and governors, thank you for being you! You care, you commit and you give every child your all. You are very special and I wish you all a well earned break and lots of lovely time with your families.

From our families to yours....Merry Christmas everyone!

Term 2 ends on Wednesday 20th December at 3:20 for KS1 and 3:30 for KS2

Term 3 starts on Wednesday 3rd January at 9:00 (doors open at 8:45)
