Learning updates

Foundation Stage Foundation Stage children have been learning to write sentences about the story of Polar Bear Polar Bear What do you hear? They have learnt how to include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Key Stage One Key Stage One have been busy practising their loud voices and beautiful singing in preparation for our Christmas Nativity performances next week. We can't wait to have an audience of proud families and friends. We have also been planning and beginning to write our own warning stories in English. We hope to finish these and share next week.

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have been exploring the wordless picture book ‘Journey’ this week. We have traveled across the playground visiting different lands using our imagination. Year 3 and 4 have continued to develop their times tables knowledge with a focus in the 2,5 and 10 in year 3 and the 11 and 12 times table in year 4.We have enjoyed making our Christmas calendars thinking carefully about all the seasons. We hope you all like them too. In science, we have continued our forces learning by further exploring magnetism and compasses. There has been some clowning around in this week's PE dance lessons, where we have taken on the role of clowns to create short sequences to add to our Greatest Showman routines. Finally, we have begun to get festive by decorating our classrooms and enjoying our annual Christmas Fayre!

Upper Key Stage Two In upper KS2, we have been putting the final touches on our anti-bullying poster in our English lessons and some of the children have even started writing their final drafts. The children have great knowledge of what bullying is and how we can make our school a great place to be.

In our computing lessons, we have started to look at vector diagrams that are created on the computer by combining several shapes to create a new image. We have been using squares and circles to create images of owls, cars and pigs. The children are finding this useful as they are using their skills of copying, pasting and reshaping to create these new images. Our PE lessons are still a place of joy where our children are able to express themselves through dance. The children have been developing their dance routines further to create a dance based on Theseus and the Minotaur, which we have been learning as part of our Greek theme this term.

attendance

90 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 96.19%

Our attendance figures for week 5 of term 2 are as follows:

Well done to our orange classes for keeping their attendance levels high this week.

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  34_incidences of lateness.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

These latenesses range from 5 minutes late to 75 minutes late. This has a huge impact on classroom teachers, office staff, pupils in class and the child that is late. Please help us to reduce lateness.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

Well done everyone :-)

Spelling Shed

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed

Christmas Fayre

Thank you for the wonderful turn out to our annual Christmas Fayre. It was so much fun and very festive. Thank you to the Year 6 pupils who designed the most exciting games. Thank you to FOMS for their lovely crafts, games and stalls, we couldn't do it without them. Lastly, thank you to our school community, you make this school a very special place to be. More news on funds raised and prize winners in next week's newsletter.

Tickets to win our Christmas cake are still on sale and can be purchased at the start of each nativity performance next week.

FOMS will also be selling their hot chocolate reindeer cones and reindeer dust at the start of the nativities too.

All pupils made a calendar to sell at the fayre. If you haven't got yours yet and you would like it, then please let the class teacher know and send in the pennies with your child.

Nativity

Mrs Evans will be signing everyone in for next week's performances. We ask for everyone to be seated (not standing) for health and safety reasons. You do not have permission to share photographs on social networking sites.

We can't wait to share this special production with you!

Winter Disco

What a wonderful evening of dancing, laughter, fun and children being children. The pupils and staff had a great time and it was lovely to see so many of you dancing the night away. The conga was the dance of the night and Mrs Flintham made us all sparkle with glitter (no change there).

Our FOMS team are incredible and they made a profit of £330 from this event. A huge thank you to them all for their time, energy and teamwork; all for our lovely pupils.

Greek Day

We are excited to share with you the incredible experience our Year 5/6 class had during our recent Greek Experience Day. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and a deep dive into the rich history and culture of ancient Greece.  Our amazing visitor, "Euripedes,"  set the stage for our journey back in time. The children were captivated by tales of ancient Greek gods and goddesses, warfare and heroic adventures. The highlight of the day was our interactive workshops. Classes rotated through various stations, each offering a unique hands-on experience. From working with tessellating shapes, to board games and quizzes, to discovering warfare and then participating in a mini Olympics competing against the Spartans, Athenians and the Corinthians. It truly was a memorable experience.

what is bullying?

When we talk about incidents between pupils at school, we use the language:

Your child can talk confidently about what bullying is and will explain the meaning of these words to you. It's important that we have a shared language and approach to incidents between peers in school and at home.

If your child is worried about an issue, then please talk it through with them. If someone has done something intentional and your child has told them to stop but it keeps happening by the same child, then please report this to school.

We take incidents of bullying very seriously and staff are trained to support pupils and families with bullying issues.

We cannot be naive to the fact that bullying does happen around the world, but you can be assured that it will be dealt with in school.

A lovely phrase shared between classes this week was, 'Be a Buddy not a Bully!'
