Learning updates

Foundation Stage Whatever Next- Foundation Stage children have had a fun week role playing blasting off into space like Baby Bear and then they wrote what he saw on his way to the moon. The children are beginning to hear and write lots of sounds within words. Look how clever they are!

Key Stage One In KS1, we have had some super maths lessons this week.  We have been using part whole models in Year 1 to help us complete fact families.  In Year 2, we have been using our number bond knowledge to work out subtraction calculations.  This week in RE, we have been learning about the Islamic faith and we are looking forward to welcoming a visitor from the Lincoln Mosque next week.

Lower Key Stage Two LKS2 have shown true patience and resilience this week during our sewing DT unit. Both Mrs Fulbrook and Miss Tucker are super proud of how the classes have all worked together and supported one another to create some brilliant final products. We have had so much fun in PSHE, coming up with our very own catchy raps, songs and poems to inform others how and why we should clean our teeth. In Maths, year three have been developing their subtraction skills focusing on exchanging across 10 and 100,  whereas year 4 have been learning all about area. We have continued to explore and understand newspaper reports in English by developing our skills in order to be ready to write our own next week.

Upper Key Stage Two What another busy week we have had. We have been researching bullying, finding out the different types of bullying and the effects it can have. This is going to help us in our quest to develop anti-bullying posters filled with persuasive language. In other areas of the curriculum, we have been developing our dance skills, looking at using different levels and directional travel. We hope to be able to create a dance inspired by our ancient Greece topic; involving a minotaur and a fight scene. Keeping with our theme of Greece, we have continued to explore the book ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ by Maz Evans. The children have really enjoyed getting to know the main character Elliot and can not wait to find out what will happen with him now he has met Virgo.

attendance

106 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 96.04%

Our attendance figures for week 2 of term 2 are as follows:

Reasons for absence

Minor coughs, colds, aches and pains can be managed in school and are not reasons to be at home. All of our classes have additional adults and therefore children will be well looked after and sent home if they are not fit for learning. Please help us build resilience by sending your child to school if they are well enough to learn.

Lateness

During the last school week, we had  23_incidences of lateness. This is an increase on last weeks figure of 7.

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

Well done to those who have shook up the leaderboard this week!

The 'England Rocks' competition will run for two days next week to find the top three classes in England. Remember you are limited to 1 hour per day! Let's do this Team Green :-)

Spelling Shed

remembrance

Thank you to everyone that supported the Poppy Appeal by purchasing merchandise. Our School Counsellors have raised lots of money for a fantastic cause. The whole school have shown their respect and admiration this week by wearing their poppies with pride and taking part in a remembrance assembly and silence.

Our service pupils in KS2 have also visited RAF Cranwell Aviation Centre to take part in remembrance workshops. They are also representing the school in the village remembrance service on Sunday. We hope to see lots of you there.

Online safety

Ask DanAnything

Online Safety Q and A for Primary School Parents

6th December 6-7:30pm sign up required:

In the Keeping Safe Online Survey of 2023, Lincolnshire Children who reported having less parental supervision online were more likely to report being bullied online. Effective parental/guardian supervision of a child’s online activity reduced the risk of children being bullied online by up to 39%. The online space can feel overwhelming with new apps and trends, it can be hard to keep up!

We want to give you the information and tools to help you feel confident enough to protect your children and young people from online harm. Dan Hawbrook our resident Online Guru will chat you through different apps, online trends, parental controls and any other burning questions you may have! Sign up is required.

Junior Road Safety Officers

children in need

On Friday 17th November, the School Council are excited to, once again, be supporting Children in Need. This year, the School Council will asking for cake donations and all children are allowed to come to school in non-uniform. Quite excitingly, each class has suggested what they would like to wear as their non-uniform. They are as follows:

Miss Storr's class:                          PJs

Mrs Jones' class:                           Anything Spotty!

Miss Pearson's class:                        PJs

Ms Vrettos and Miss McKenzie's class:          PJs and teddies!

Mrs Fulbrook's class:                        Halloween costumes!

Miss Tucker's class:                         PJs

Mr Edward's class:                          PJs

Mrs Wilcox's and Mrs Smith-Wood's class:        PJs / football kits

Mrs Freeman's class:                        PJs

These are suggestions only and any non-uniform is fine too 🙂

Parents do not need to make a monetary donation this year as we have already asked for support with fundraising in Term 1. Any cakes would be gratefully received and we are running a sponsored Children In Need Tapathon event if anyone would like to contribute towards this cause.

Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week will take place from Monday 13th November to Friday 17th November.  During this week, we will be organising various special assemblies, activities and discussions within our school to shine a spotlight on bullying and encourage all children, teachers and parents to take action against bullying throughout the year.

The national theme of this year’s event is, “Make a Noise about Bullying.”  All children will engage in purposeful, age-appropriate activities and discussions related to bullying, its consequences and strategies to prevent and address it.  A particular thread higher up the school will explore Banter v Bullying as well as discussing cyber bullying, which is particularly relevant in this digital age.  All children will revisit the definition of bullying and how to distinguish it from being rude or mean.

English Open Morning

Parents and carers are welcome in school on Wednesday 22nd November from 9:15-10:00. This session will allow you to take part in English Learning with your child. This will be a similar format to Maths Morning.

Football

This week saw our Year 5/6 team took to the pitch to take on Brant Broughton in our first league match of the season. We played our best; had some great chances and our goalkeeper made some fine finger tip saves. Unfortunately, we suffered a 3-1 defeat. The team were amazing and I was so proud of their effort, resilience and determination, they never gave up. They played to the very end and player of the match was awarded to Joshua.

Our next game is against Horbling Primary School and I know the team are looking to hopefully taking all the points in this game.
