welcome back
Term 2! Time really flies when you are having fun. It's been a positive and happy start to the term. Pupils came back to school excited and have settled back into routines quickly. We are ready and raring to go and hope to see lots of progress from the foundations that were established in Term 1. We have a wonderful term planned.
Learning updates
Foundation Stage The Reception children had lots of fun celebrating Halloween. They enjoyed playing spooky games, dancing, pizza making and completing a donut challenge.
Key Stage One Key Stage One have made a super start to Term 2! We are practising our oracy and story telling by learning the story, Kassim and the Greedy Dragon off by heart. We have wowed our teachers with how much we can already tell by heart. In maths we are enjoying developing our understanding and mental methods with addition and subtraction and we are learning about wheels and axles in DT and are very excited to design our own toy cars later in the term.
Lower Key Stage Two Year 3 and 4 have had a fun packed week. Tuesday began with some very strange goings on, leaving the children and teachers with a mystery to investigate. Pupils have taken on the role of reporters in tracking down what, when, who, where and why their classrooms were targeted by eerily dressed characters who stole precious classroom resources. Some say the creatures resembled reception children! In PE the children have enjoyed playing Dodgeball and dancing to 'The Greatest Showman'. The creativity continued on Thursday as the children began to design and make christmas decorations. It was fantastic to see children with impressive sewing skills supporting others in their class to learn new techniques. In maths, Year 3 have been practising column addition, exchanging across 10's and 100's. Year 4 have been focusing on estimation within addition and subtraction. Please remember that all children will now have access to maths homework on Google Classrooms each Friday, to go alongside their existing maths, spellings and reading each week.
Upper Key Stage Two Well, It's been an exciting start to Term 2. Even with witches and pumpkins wandering around the place, your children returned to school happy and ready to learn! It's so important that they get the time to transition back to school after a break and we all enjoyed reconnecting with our friends on Tuesday morning. In English, we have 'hooked' the children with a wonderful book by Tony Ross called "Is it Because?" It deals with some big themes such as bullying, sympathy, empathy, courage, resilience and understanding. After reading it, we were so impressed with the conversations the children had, as they thought about the perspective of the two characters. We can't wait to see how the unit develops. Already, some of the school council have been busy meeting with the administration team to find out what is involved with being a Treasurer. They also have their first meeting this week to continue planning for Children in Need. Watch this space!
attendance
117 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%
Current whole school attendance is 95.88%
Our attendance figures for week 1 of term 2 are as follows:
Mrs Duggin wrote a lot of 100% attendance certificates for Term 1. Well done to all of those pupils who didn't have a single day off school last term.
We award these certificates at the end of each term so lets see who can achieve this in Term 2.
Lateness
During the last school week, we had 7_incidences of lateness. This is a very positive start to Term 2, thank you!
Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.
TTRockstars
Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars
Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.
Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.
A very happy Dexter was excited to share his position on the top ten with Mrs Duggin this week. What a star!
Mrs Duggin has enrolled all KS2 classes into the 'England Rocks' competition that will run for two days to find the top three classes in England. The children have been coming up with a strategy to be the best class in England.
