Learning updates

Foundation Stage The Early Years children have been designing and making biscuits to look like themselves.  They had great fun looking at their features and using sweets to make a face.  They all enjoyed eating them - what a treat!

Key Stage One Key Stage One has been so busy this week! We have been trying really hard in spelling and handwriting and the teachers are noticing how much the children are settling and maturing by their ever-improving organisation and motivation. We are trying to be the best we can be. In English, we have loved sharing our treasure troves from home and have written some beautiful poems all about our own treasure. In music, we are learning a new song and are very excited to be playing the instrumental next week using xylophones. In art, we have been using tracing paper to trace photographs of ourselves for our self-portraits. We have been securing our understanding of place value in maths and enjoyed using number-lines and hundred squares. We are looking forward to sharing this learning with our families in Maths morning.

Lower Key Stage Two We are well into the school term now and year 3 and 4 are successfully settling into routines and creating new friendships.  In English this week, we finished reading our exciting novel 'The Lost Happy Endings' and started to explore the witch character.  The children enjoyed the descriptive drawing game which relied on their partner describing a witch in detail, without them knowing what the witch looked like, to create their own version of the character. The children have been learning about Viking invasions. They have enjoyed exploring invasions from different perspectives and some children even took on the role of a Viking to justify their invasion!  The pupils have been exploring numbers to 1000 on a number line, ordering them and looked for patterns. Year 4 spent some time ordering numbers up to 10,000 and had a brief look at Roman Numerals. The children have been enjoying a chance to relax and enjoy a good book in our lovely school library.

Upper Key Stage Two We're almost through week 4 of our new school year and UKS2 are settling into the learning expectations required for Years 5 and 6 really well. Their writing journey, this week, has seen them analysing a model text, focusing on fronted adverbials for time and place and re-writing a chapter in their own words. In maths, Year 6 have ventured into the world of fractions, whilst the Year 5s have worked through rounding numbers up to 1,000,000 (they really needed their place value hats on)! This terms RE unit is all about Humanism. The children have been looking at 'worldviews' and realising that everyone has their own 'worldview', some are religious worldviews and some are non-religious. Geography learning has involved the children taking a closer look at Greece  focusing on some of the human geographical features, such as food, music, dance, clothing and schooling.

attendance

170 pupils have maintained 100% attendance so far this academic year.

Last years whole school attendance figure was 95.15%

Current whole school attendance is 95.05%

Our attendance figures for week 4 of term 1 are as follows:

Well done to Miss Storr's class for their excellent attendance.

During the last school week, we had  19_incidences of lateness. This is an improvement on last weeks latenesses

Please be reminded that doors open at 8:45 and registration is at 9:00. This gives you 15 minutes to be early and have a calm start to the day.

sickness

Children do get ill which does mean they may need to have a few days off school.  However, we are seeing a rise in children missing school when they could be in the building.  The traffic light guidance below may help you decide if your child is well enough to come into school. We will always contact you if your child is too ill to learn. Help us keep attendance levels up.

TTRockstars

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a TTRockstars account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website TTRockstars

Each issue we will list the latest leader board for Times Tables Rockstars. To get on the leader board, you need to play 'studio' on TTRockstars and you need to play at least ten times.

Please find the current leader board and the class 'top rockers'.

Well done Harry, you are motoring up the leaderboard.

Spelling Shed

Every child from Year 2 upwards has a Spelling Shed account which can be accessed in school or at home via the website Spelling Shed

Here are the latest scores on the whole-school leader board (these scores are based on their total score from the last 7 days):

World League Top Ten!! Can we just take a minute to celebrate this.....WOW! Team Green, You Rock!

This week's X Posts

school council

Our school council has been elected! 👏 The children have gone through a democratic process, whereby they expressed their interest and wrote and presented their manifestos to their fellow class members. Names were put forward and last Thursday the whole school underwent the election process, resulting in 18 children being elected as a Metheringham Primary School Councillor. What an amazing show of 'pupil voice'. The councillors had their first meeting today and Mrs Wilcox and I can't wait to get going!

They give our pupils the time, attention and care that they deserve. They also make each day fun, which is what it's all about. Thank you to the best team we could wish for.
